    Thumbs up OMFG!!!! ALTA 2/27/07!!!!!!!!!!!

Question: What is better than Alta on a powder day?

Answer: Alta on a powder day with the road closing before 10 AM.

It wasn't deep. You couldn't see shit. It was windy as balls all morning. Man, it sure did suck!

In all seriousness, it was a pretty solid day at Alta. Winds hammering and snow coming down hard from 8 to 10 made for great upside down layers in the snow, thus the High T didn't open until 11. Thankfully, the road closure kept the liftline at Collins to absolutely nothing and the minimal open terrain didn't get crushed. Patrol was working hard to get the High T open in the tough conditions.

And then it happened. I was 6th in line as the gate opened. I knew where I was headed. Semi-slow going as the traverse had to be put in again. Not the worst, but no high-speed maching. Just after Sunspot, we hit a slow point and had to step up a little bit. This gave the crowd behind me a chance to move up, which sucked. Only a few people passed me. However, I got my revenge.

Just past Annie's Trees, the visibility sucked as the wind whipped snow across the traverse. The leaders were going slow, so I made my move. I dropped a few feet lower and flew by everyone! No deep pockets of snow as the wind blew it all away. I was in the lead!

As I looked down on my run, I knew it was going to be epic. Good visibility, and only two patroller tracks on High Boy. Game ON! The snow was as smooth and creamy. My Spatulas rode like champs, turn after turn. I almost came in my pants. (not really) Without a doubt, one of my best runs ever. It felt like it took forever, but it was over in an instant.

The rest of the boring afternoon was spent ripping turns through Annie's and West Rustler, carving up the delicious powder. There was plenty to go around, since the road remained closed until 2 PM. I felt bad leaving, but I was beat after so many runs of untracked powder. There was a little left, and being the generous person I am, I left it for the poor souls coming up the canyon this afternoon. Alta Patrol is also generous, saving all of Supreme, the Backside, and the Shoulder for those lucky enough to ski tomorrow morning. See you in line! (save me spot!)

welcome to the wasatch once again Z. that is why you moved, and stayed, here in Utard.

Great read - almost felt like I was there, almost.

Nice way to blow it for tomorrow. Sometimes in a case like this, a little discretion is advised.

Good point. Had I not posted this, nobody would ski Supreme tomorrow. Now that I have posted this, it will get skied out a lot faster. Sorry for trying to stoke my compatriots and give them a little beta.
