    Washington backcountry conditions

    CT0 Q1 x3 on about a 320 degree aspect, about 35 degree slope angle, about two and a half feet down. 6800 ft. 2/23/07.

    Pit was in path adjacent to avalanche fatality in Crystal Backcountry on 2/24.

    Picture taken of fracture profile of above accident on 2/25. Weak layer is first obvious dark layer, underneath the first crust:



    In the right spot that crust will still be reactive.

    What was the density like above the week layer?

    There was a thin (1cm) crust directlly above the weak layer which was knife hardness.

    The slab itself was mostly 1F.
