The 8800's are being replaced by the Mythic Rider next year. I have skied both. The Mythic seems to be a bit more forgiving at the resort but lacks the balls in high speed powder turns.

The weekends are slow around here. A lot of people on this board check it from work. So you will probably get more input if you bump the thread Monday morning.

I haven't ridden the heads, but if you are in the market for some 188 8800's (mounted with p12's for a 315 bootsole) let me know.

I enjoyed the M88's in the crud. They are a heavy durable ski. They tracked like a train.

I ride 88's and love them, They do everything well, but really excel in destroying manky crud. The dynastars are softer, that's all I know.

i thought the mythic skied "stiffer" than the 8800, that being said you may be able to find 8800s on sale now?

3names, yup that's about right, but I think tail is the same

I too thought that the Mythic skied stiffer than the 8800. For me that's a welcome change but I wish they hadn't added so much sidecut.

Thanks everyone for the replies! I currently am riding Dynastar skicross 10's in 178cm. I can't wait to have a little more under foot. Any length recs for a 6' 230#, 6-7 level?

just as an additional ski to think about, the dims of volkl karmas are almost identical... 119-87-111. 185s might fit the bill.

never having been on either of those, i know i've heard nothing but praise for the versatility of the im88s

3names: FWIW I think your 8800 estimates are correct, Al's dimensions don't jive with other web sources.

For all you im88 lovers, how would you compare it to a Volkl Mantra or something similar?

Me: 6' 220# pretty good skier. I like mine in a 188. My wife, 5'10" skied the 178 and liked it too.

The im88's are a burlier ski. if you want a soft cruiser, get the 8800's, if you want to dig trenches and bust the crud, get the 88's. Totally different skis. For your level, the 177 length would be much more forgiving. Step up to the longer lengths when you start having issues with stability at speed.

    Thanks again for the responses.
What about the mantra or karma? They seem to fall in the mid zone.

The 8800 differs in dimensions by length, the 188cm is 89mm underfoot, I forget the tip and tail. I have a pair of 188cm and they are a great do-everything forgiving ski. Soft in the tip but decent power underneath (sandwich underfoot, cap in tip and end of tail, autodrive construction or whatever it's called). I like the radius, good for a variety of turns and they don't feel hooky. A bit soft for bigger guys (I am 210lbs) but a good do-it-all ski (soft tip works well in powder). If you are bigger and like to rail your skis I'd try the Heads.

i skied the 178 mythics today back 2 back with 186 legend pros. conditions were chopped up off-piste, no viz, grand montet. i am 5-11, 175, decent skier. i used to ski a 178 intuitiv as well.

had to definitely dial back the speed going off the lps. after 2 runs tho i got into the groove with them and think they are a solid ski. i was suprised that the larger sidecut was not a problem going thru cut up crud etc. on the couple of windblown to ice patches i found these held a wonderfully confident edge and they also caved nice on the groom. i could have used a few more cms, they are coming out with a 184 by midseason. i reckon these are going to be very popular with the guides. in every condition i skied them, they are superior to the intuitiv or 8800.

oh as a hilarious one i got the rep to admit that the px series is total crap and that he would never ski it and would opt for the p14 or p18 every time.

I have been on the 188 In-Big(8800) 117-89-110 for a couple years. I have a few days on the 186 iM88's. Based on your weight you may be happier with the iM88. It''s definitly stiffer overall but you can drive the ski into most turn shapes. If you want something more forgiving go with the 8800. I'd go with the 180ish length for both because it will give you better float in fresh. I'm going to ski the 185 Karma this weekend so I'll let you know how they are vs. the other two. Just hand flexing the Karmas are quite a bit stiffer than the 8800 throughout. Seem to be a little stiffer in the tip than the iM88.
