    why are dynafits so bomber?

Ok I admit it, I was skeptical as hell of these tiny things with their minuscule footprint and tiny 10 DIN. How could they possibly hold a 5'10" 235 pound fatass like me?

After skiing them mounted on TM:X's with F1's and being fairly impressed with the weight loss, I decided to take the plunge and swap a pair of Freerides for another pair of TLT's and pick up some brand spanking new TLT 700 boots off of e-bay to put on my Heli Daddy's.

After touring the better part of a week on the setup, and I am full on drinking the Dynafit kool-aid. They're lighter, they give better input from boot to ski, they climb and skin better, and the best part no prerelease or quirky issues like insta-tele. And after 2-3 months on dynafits overall I finally feel like I can get into the binding with very few problems no matter the situation.

Now the question, I understand why they're lighter, I get why the input interface gives a better power transmission, but I can't figure out why I have to crank my white and red freerides to stay in them but the dynafits I can ski at 8.5 and have no problems. I still feel like I'm skiing just as hard but without any issues
For sure, you have to be lost to find a place that can't be found, elseways everyone would know where it was

Fewer moving parts. Simple designs are (typically) more reliable and durable.

I still think the fristchi freeride plus hold you in better...how bout this you bring your teeny dynafits up to alta or snowbird and ill ride on my fritschis all day going out traverses and dropping cliffs...well see who prereleases then.

I agree that for inbounds/OB binding a freeride works better, but if you're not dropping cliffs and hammering traverses................

well its a brilliant design to begin with

it utilizes the extremely rigid frame of your ski boot to transmit the loads and resolve the forces rather than have redundant weight and use rails like in the naxo\fr\silvy designs.

if you look at the toe peice, the entire thing is metal, save for 3 peices.
the baseplate, which is completely inconsequential.
the toe lever, which does nothing other than select ski\touring mode and release you when you stop.
the little red\grey hinge peice, which does nothing other than allow the jaws to pivot freely.

the toe peices job is very simple in the dynafit binding.
it constrains your foot vertically, laterally, and longitudinally.
its no different really from other bindings, except for one key feature.
theres no forward pressure. its completely independent of preload or shock loading since the heel is almost a "free floating" design in that the pins can move as they will.

the heel peice is a great design as well.
very few moving parts and its only job is to hold your heel down and keep it from twisting out.

every parts job is really limited so it can really do those tasks well.
furthermore, the part that resolves the greatest loads, is all metal (toe).

should help explain a little bit
    ask anymore questions

This might be a stupid idea as to why you can get away with a lower DIN, but perhaps being that much closer to the ski eliminates some of the leverage that would cause the pressure needed to release.

That or you don't ski your dynafit setup as hard as you ski your alpine one which would make sense.

I heard they are bomber because they are made from the bone marrow of Chuck Norris.

the lower your binding is to the ski, the more force it will see for a given force at your edge

the shorter you make the fulcrum of a lever (ie lower stack height) the more force it takes to turn the ski on edge

and I ski every bit as hard as I do on my dynafits as I do on my alpines.
granted I dont go pound bumps at the resort, but everything else is fair game.
i dont really take a lot of air or huck off anything, so keep that in mind.
there are, however, plenty of people I know that do huck things in their dynafits without problem

and, of course, theyre made with his bone marrow.

What "cliffs" are you talking about. I know more than one person who's exploderized a Freeride toepiece just skiing. Now add 20 feet of omph to that...sorry...no thanks.

They're both touring bindings and they're just not designed for that kind of riding. I don't give either the advantage in that regard.

Dynafits all the way. Lightweight, less plastic. If I wanna huck, I'll take my Markers. If I wanna tour, Dynafits. Freerides are plastic trash.

4th season on Dynafits with zero issues.

When at the area, just remember that they have no anti-shock

Icy bumps could result in pre-release.

It's all in the toe height adjustment. At least on the older models. I have some pluses I haven't even mounted up yet.
