    Hi!

My name is Tom. I am a CASI L1 snowboard instructor.

I bought a Professional Alu snow shovel in Snell Sports in my home of Chamonix, France, in June 2006.

At present I am on a residential snowboard instructor course in Golden, BC. I used my shovel for the first time today at Kicking Horse Resort as part of my AST L1. We dug a pit and isolated a column. After doing our block tests, I packed away my shovel and noticed that the lower part of the silver arm was bent. The snow we were examining was soft (no crusts or ice layers) and no undue pressure had been exerted on the shovel or handle during the session. Today was the first time I had ever used the shovel.

The silver handle now doesn't retract fully and I'm worried as to the strength of the handle. Would you be able to replace it for me? My receipt is in Chamonix still but I could have it sent over if need be. I am here in Golden until 24th March and am hoping to do at least 25 backcountry days while I'm here.

Look forward to hearing from you!

    Many thanks,
...and today I received this by email.

I will send you a new handle in the mail right away.

    Best regards,

    Ryan

I had also problems with my m2 after 2 years of use(for me). I bought it used and didn't had a receipt, but they fixed it and I just needed to pay transfers. Great service! My next avytransiever is probably also going to be Ortovox.

they fixed a F1 gate for me ASAP, but the M1 with a loose scew has to go back to the motherland. Can't be fixed in NA. 2-3 months later I might have the beacon back....

I bought a professional Alu shovel and found that the black "L" section of the handle had not been rivited to the shaft so it just spun. Not very servicable and it of course could not be put into the "adze" position for chopping through hard layers. I emailed Ortovox and they asked me to send the section to them in Hopkington NH. The only reasonable rate was UPS ground which should have taken 7 days. Delivery was delayed due to ironically ... a major snow storm! Have heard nothing back from them since it was delivered (UPS tracking says "Left at front door" which seems odd for a business address). Curious that Tom writes with a bent handle on the same shovel I have and they promptly send a new handle out and on mine they need to see the defective handle before they do anything.
The snow doesn't give a soft white damn whom it touches.
