Absolutely insane out there today. A full TR will follow, but for now I just had to say it was amazing. Knee to waist deep all day with consistent track fill in from wind blown and fresh. And just to think "Tonight the heavy precipitation will start" -Weather Channel
I know someone coming up from Reno, and they left at 1:00 and they have only made it to the scales on 80, four hours later! So if your planning on driving 80, you might want to stay put for awhile.
I can't f'ing wait to drive to Minden tomorrow morning. But if there's luck I can hit Rose before going home if they turn.

I left N* at 8am and was held at Donner Pass Rd for 45 min due to multiple spin outs. Once they let us through it was 10-20mph the whole way to Gold Run when it finally opened up. Pretty ridiculous drive. Took 5 hours 15 minutes to get back to the Bay Area. Hope he makes it safely.
But there were multiple crotch grabs on Sunday. Made it all worth while.
Looks like another messy night. Sweet. If anyone is driving be safe or better yet don't drive.
Five hours? You got lucky. It took me a grand total of 15 hours, $110 at the Holiday Inn in South Lake over two days to get back to the Bay.
I have a serious hatred for gapers on storm days now. They should ban all FWD/RWD vehicles and 4WD vehicles without all-seasons/snow tires on storm days. Among the most ridiculous was a Escalade on 24's with chains trying and failing to get up a simple driveway, sliding back down onto Lake Tahoe blvd and proceeding to nearly hit cars.
I try to avoid Tahoe City/South Lake these days now - Sierra, Squaw or Kirkwood are the places to go with minimal gaper action.
I emailed Scott, Billy, and Shaydar on Friday to ask:
The only response I got?Do you know whether there are any plans underway to mark the 25th anniversary of the Poma Rocks slide?
To which I responded:"The 25th of WHAT? I have no idea."
Pretty fucking disconcerting to me.You know the memorial on top of Roundhouse?

Avalanche Bowl was great in the afternoon too. It seemed everyone was content skiing the "soft" bumps on the face or only venturing 100' off the run.....maybe they give a shit about their gear? Zippy and I didn't, and we had that thing to ourselves several times with full refills about every two laps. As long as you cut back in at the usual re entry to East Bowl, it was not too bony anyway. As soon as the gondola spins (please be tomorrow) I will find out about Raleys Bowl, Firebreak and maybe even Palisades for you guys. I'm good with a little base carnage.
And it's still full scale nukage here in South Shore. Doppler looks like an obese praymantis was squished over Tahoe. I'm leaving the skins at home until Wednesday and riding the bullwheel!
Yup, I'm going to curb my enthusiasm and pass on the dawn patrol tomorrow. I just looked at the avy report and decided that I have no business being on WH tomorrow, especially not solo.
I'm praying I can escape for a few hours Wednesday morning and hit up the Heav. I too have no concern for my skis.![]()

Donjoy to the World!
haven't seen it snow this hard in years. its insane how things have changed in one week w/ no sign of letting up. another couple feet tonight and then another foot tomorrow night and then a chance of snow every day till sat. sat is the 1st day w/ a ptly cldy forecast and no mention of a chance of snow so that could be the day some big long lines go down for the 1st time in a couple years. looks like skiing to gardnerville is not out of the question at this point.
i bailed on my crew's dp up p-house manana cause i'm actually more stoked to ride the flying couch tomorrow and lap the shit outta avy bowl at the heave 1st thing for an hour or 2 now that reports of it being skiable are pouring in. i predict p-house will require some herculean effort breaking trail in 3-4' of snow, only to be rewarded w/ a mostly straightline descent cause i don't think its gonna be steep enough to make turns except on a few select pitches. and its obviously not gonna be safe enough to seek out the steeper bc lines manana. shit, i'm even questioning skiing avy bowl solo so hopefully i'll find a partner in the lineup.
git sum and be safe!!!!
OMG! lOOK AT THAT THING!!!!!!!

^MADN3sS^ i tell you.
I had my first days skiing in america today in squaw.
Awesome.
I managed to hook up with a local hucker called Sam who agreed to show me around today which turned out to be amazing good luck.
Today was total storm skiing. Low vis with high winds in the exposed sections.
A total of 8 lifts were open from 9.45am , KT-22 being the last to open. We did laps of Red Dog first coming down straight under the chair through the trees. Sam proceeded to immediately send it and hucked 25 feet. straight down into the trees and on into the gulleys where we came across a boarder who had run into the stream bed and was trapped up to his neck so we dug him out.
It was waist to chest deep in the trees. very sweet.
We then moved on to KT-22 which was very windy at the top but we made 5 laps taking in steep gullies, open powder fields and Sam continued to huck of 30ft rocks stomping every one including a perefect back flip from a natural kicker between some trees. The snow was again beautiful and filling back in for every run. Every person on the mountain was beaming ear to ear.
I had to take a chill pill as Sam was ripping it up on every run and my legs started to cramp up so i said enjoy and made my way back down for a rest and some food.
I then hooked up with the rest of my party and we went up Red dog again and started doing laps on the squaw creek lift where it was more sheltered from the wind. The tree runs threough there were amazing.
No photos of any kind on a day like today.
All in all and amazing day in an amazing place.
Semper in Pulveris .... Only the depth varies
Well, 80 just opened to everything but trucks.
Time to haul.
88 is still closed. those bastards
Looks like they shut 80W for a bit for a jackknifed big rig at Prosser, but the Kingvale cam shows light traffic.
