1. Squaw was fine today and Broken Arrow was exceptional. KT still had the goods.
2. My younger 12 year old son's first time on Broken Arrow. He was stoked as was I. He converted from snowboarding last spring.
3. I remounted my SV back 1cm and I skied like ass today. Worst was my last run on KT in flat light down skier's right of the Nose Chutes. Just total ass right under the chair with some friendly onlookers saying something. I couldn't make out the words and ignorance probably was bliss.![]()

Nice Jim....that is cool your son converted....TO skiing!!!![]()
Thanks for the pics....today was a work day for me (both home shit and now AT work)......but tomorrow I am headed to Squaw for the storm day.....VERY STOKED!!!!
Donjoy to the World!
Nah, I was just off my mark today and the remount of the Vicous threw me off a bit until I get used to them. I think tomorrow will be a Red Dog + KT only day for sure. Depending on the roads I might wussy out and hit Rose which is less than 15 minutes from my door when roads are good. Friday it took me 2 hours to get to Squaw due a car accident on the two lane highway and the Tahoe City congestion.
But for Tahoe Firing, it's looking sooooo good.....I like the words "Sierra Event":
SNOWFALLTOTALS OF 18 TO 30 INCHES ARE EXPECTED ABOVE 7000 FEET...WITH 8 TO 16 INCHES AT LAKE LEVEL BEFORE THE SNOW TAPERS TO SHOWERS BY SUNDAY EVENING.
ANOTHER WINTER STORM MAY BRING MORE HEAVY SNOW AND WINDY
CONDITIONS FROM MONDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH TUESDAY MORNING. ADDITIONAL SNOWFALL OF 2 FEET OR MORE IS POSSIBLE ABOVE 7000 FEET WITH A FOOT OR MORE POSSIBLE AT LAKE LEVEL WITH THIS STORM.
...THE MONDAY-TUESDAY SIERRA EVENT SHOULD EASILY RESULT IN 2 TO 3 FEET WITH THE POTENTIAL FOR SOME 4-5 FOOT REPORTS.

Ouch....I am not going to be scared off though (Rose is only about 20 minutes from my door now....I moved to Washoe Valley). I am not getting that many days recently (Mrs.Huckwheat is expecting....and we have been going XC)......so when I have the full day......gotta go to the mothership!!!
Maybe I will still see ya....

I was super lucky. I think about 3 people got tagged, but it was such mayhem that everyone got out of the debris and bolted for the powder at hand. Determination for sure, myself was unlucky and lost my ski sticking out of the snow 50 yards up. I guess a few people saw it from above though. It hit me from the side, at first it felt like someone skied into me. Super lucky and thanks.
A few shots from the last 3 days. By Wednesday every lake level line should be good to go!

Checking in from Kirkweird.
Nuking and puking outside, lots of winds - wind loaded runs will be the name of the game tomorrow. Their forecast is calling for 12-18 tonight and 10-15 tomorrow.
The stoke is on.
ohhhhhh yeaaaahhhhh!!!! taking the day off to rest my back and then its really gonna be a struggle to get any work done this week. for the 1st time this year, the nws isn't even listing any snow levels which means snow down to the valley floors i think. hopefully the carson valley actually gets some snow and then the real big lines will be in shape. that heave pass may have not been such a bad idea after all.
nice pics joe. in that last one buddy is barely recognizable.
i dont think im going to make it to class until wednesday at the earliestSNOW WILL CONTINUE ACROSS THE LAKE TAHOE BASIN THROUGH LATE MONDAY NIGHT WITH HEAVY SNOW AT TIMES. OVERALL SNOWFALL TOTALS OF 3 TO 6 FEET ARE EXPECTED ABOVE 7000 FEET
high avy advisory listed on mainstream forecasts. worries were validated w/ the advisory as last night before the snow really started falling there was a bit of an ice/graupel storm. now this graupel layer is causing instabilities and besides that we're starting to get an upside down snowpack w/ that low density snow now being covered snow w/ a moisture content of 9-11%. gonna be a bit till its copacetic to ski the steep and deep outside the resorts.
It is Faceshots galore but only stagecoach and boulder are turning today. Almost 2 feet here on stagecoach so far this morn. Had to take a breather in the truck. Effin winds blowin galore too. No lift line. 20F at base.
Lake level lines are good to go huh? So who's gonna go get 7,000 vert on mt rose and ski to in and out burger?
So - who else had to turn back at carson spur this morning?
Rose report this AM called for Lakeview only with Slide & NW on windhold. Got up there without too much trouble and in the Lakeview line at 8:45. Shortly thereafter NW began to spin and patrol headed up. Another guy in the LV line said a Suburban had t-boned a NHP car on his way up and they closed 431 right behind him. NW & Zephyr opened about 9:45 and there couldn't have been more than 100 people there and probably a whole lot less. Lotsa non-stop laps til the wind picked up again and they closed up NW & Zephyr a bit after 1. Snow was windpacked in places but was money in the trees. Met MTT in the NW line while waiting to open, was on his new 179 Bros, me on the 1st edition 188 Bros. Considering most of Tahoe seems to be on windhold today, looks like I scored!

Serge I am on the Kirkwood side of the spur and I heard that roads are closed in both directions for the night.
Great conditions today, fresh pow, but the high winds sucked and kept us out of the stuff on top. All the lower stuff was fresh and made for some creative riding.
Please God, let Monday settle wind wise.
Squaw was deep and fun....despite a lack of lifts. Got a bunch of Red Dog in the AM, then went down to Far East, and finally spent the remainder of the day on Expedition/Searchlight (not sure if I have ever ridden that chair before). You could traverse under the fingers, and hit some trees.
The driving around N.Tahoe is madness.....no one is going anywhere.....total parking lots. Took me two hours from Squaw to South Reno over Rose.....not too bad that way.
Pics and mini TR later on.
Donjoy to the World!
Ditto. Red Dog was hit by myself, Corky and Mrs. Corky and my younger son; the older son set off with his friends. It was good and deep.
My house to Squaw: 2 hours
Squaw back to my house: 3 hours
I got home and had enough snow to huck from the street over two rock walls and onto my driveway: video to follow. No bull.

don't miss that about tahoe storm days - wind hold. a bummer of a reality up there. that and the weekend traffic. took my friends 4 hours from tahoe city to truckee. that's pure comedy.
What a weekend! Knee-deep at the wood on Sat. (Zippy, I met your mom in the lift line) Thigh-deep at Rose today. Winter has begun.
