    Sirens: what's the difference?

The standard Bee..Boo..Bee..Boo sirens generally signify ambulances and police vehices in hot persuit of something dismal (car wreck, personal injury, etc.). What do the long winded Rheeeee...Whoooooo......Rheeee...Whooooo sirens tha sound like cold-war-era air raid horns mean? House on fire? Russians are coming?

Elle Mcpherson was the brunette with nice boobs, Portia de Rossi was the blonde, Kate Fischer was the one who's career went nowhere.

It can signify flood or tornado warnings. Either way, strange if you are hearing them in the middle of the winter.

[rant]I live in an urban area two doors down from the fire department (read 20 yards). Everytime we have a snow emergency (i.e. plowing), a tornado warning, a thunderstorm warning, an Amber Alert, incoming warheads, heavy fog, unexpected traffic, a flasher in the neighborhood, a heat advisory, etc., they blow the mo' fo' horn. The entire house shakes, the cats piss themselves, the milk in the fridge coagulates and I can't hear right for a week. [/rant]

where I grew up the second siren either meant limerick nuclear power plant melted down or that the volunteer firefighters had to report to the firehouse.

I know... The gall! As if the sirens weren't enough, the sons of bitches keep pulling these big ass trucks out of the station, revving the engines and barreling down the street with the lights flashing. Do you know how difficult it is to watch "Gilmore Girls" with that kind of distraction? I need my "me time" for me... Pansy-ass property owners should be able to take care of their house fires themselves.
