Thanks TJ.
Does anything happen? I got bored and closed the window.
Wow. Powerful. Something none of us will ever forget.
Great, now I feel guilty.
Thank God A christian president is in office. Thank you Mr. Bush for taking a stance against terrorism. God bless America.
I couldn't pull my eyes away.
A bit schmaltzy for me.
War is peace.
I swear, if Bush envokes 9/11 one more time I'm going to scream. Especially when he uses it to invade countries, strip us of our rights, etc
We must never forget, but we must also not let the deaths of others be used for political gain. I'll never forget excactly where I was when I heard.
"These are crazy times Mr Hatter, crazy times. Crazy like Buddha! Muwahaha!"
I don't like political threads, so I won't check back here.
But, personally, I really thought that piece was poorly written and sappy. I didn't like it at all.
I don't need something like that to remind me, I remember all too well, as does every other American. Honestly, I don't know if they wanted me to remember 9/11, remind me to be pissed about it, or to remember that war is necessary.

steezarific!!
Well, if you fear death, that might scare you.
But it pisses me off.
Bush has done a good job of scaring Congressmen and the American public into signing away virtually all of our civil liberities that so many of the forefathers in that piece were quoted on as holding sacred. I personally believe the Bush Administration KNEW the attacks of 9/11 were going to happen and did nothing about it, so Dickless Cheney could invade Iraq and secure the oil riches for himself and the Bush family.
Frightening, isolationistic, liberty usurping, fear-generating propaganda under the guise of nationalistic pride and security.
It worked for Hitler.

I'm just waiting for Bush to pull Osama out of a hat in, oh, the last week of October. Mark my words. This WILL happen, and it won't be coincidence. Remember - they had Saddam for 5 days before we heard about it.
The blood of heroes, indeed.
And of course it's sappy. It was made back in October 2002 - just before the election.
scare tactics![]()
Ppl all over the world live with tragedy everyday - has America forgotten that?
Children in our own country are starving to death. They are without clothes or proper materials for their education and yet ppl like Jack Kemp are creating for profit organizations that will go into Iraq and take advantage of their need for schools, clothing and medical care for children - has he forgotten about his own country?
I will not be held hostage by images of that horrible day.

I see your point here, splat. It's well taken, and pretty true.Originally posted by splat

I just wanted to add a note about Calhoun, who is one of the meanest bastards in US history. You're using his quote (with which I concur) out of context, and I'm pretty sure he would have favored beating the shit out of Iraq. Ol' John pretty much rejected every single fundamental point of the US constitution.
"There are no natural rights; liberty is a reward and, inevitably, based upon the slavery of others." -JCC
In his "Disquisition on Government," he also specifically rejects the doctrines of numerical majority, separation of church and state, separation of powers, and a few other things. Ironically, he defined himself as a "constitutionalist." Go figure.
His statue in Charleston, SC, was so badly defiled when it was first erected they had to transfer it to a 50 foot high smooth marble podium. The actual inscription was destroyed anyway, with this text etched in its place:
"That you see is not the real monument. But I have seen it. It is the desolated, ruined south; nearly the whole generation of young men between seventeen and thirty destroyed or maim'd; all the old families used up--the rich impoverish'd, the plantations cover'd with weeds, the slaves unloos'd and become the masters, and the name of southerner blacken'd with every shame --all that is Calhoun's real monument"
Just wanted us to consider the source, is all.
edit: My hatred for Calhoun may have come through a bit... his thoughts on numerical majorities are actually pretty relevant today, I think.

He just doesn't seem to get it. It's as if he (and his handlers) are incapable of real emotion and are unable to see the depth of the tragedy on a level that regular people do.
Bush ads anger some 9/11 families
Bush adviser: 'It really defined our future'
NEW YORK (AP) --President Bush's re-election campaign on Thursday defended commercials using images from the September 11 terrorist attacks, including wreckage of the World Trade Center, as appropriate for an election about public policy and the war on terror.
Some families of the victims of the attacks are angry with Bush for airing the spots, which they called in poor taste and for the president's political gain. (Bush ads tout 'steady leadership')
"I respectfully, completely disagree," Bush adviser Karen Hughes said Thursday on CNN's "American Morning."
"Your viewers saw the ad. I think it's very tasteful. It's a reminder of our shared experience as a nation. I mean September 11th is not just some distant tragedy from the past, it really defined our future."
The first three ads, unveiled Wednesday at campaign headquarters in suburban Washington, will run on broadcast channels in about 80 markets in 18 states, most of which are expected to be critical to the election, and nationwide on select cable networks. (Bush takes aim at Kerry, Bush hits fund-raising trail)
"It's a slap in the face of the murders of 3,000 people," Monica Gabrielle, whose husband died in the twin towers, told the New York Daily News for its Thursday editions. "It is unconscionable."
Two of the spots show the destruction at the World Trade Center and include an American flag flying amid the debris.
They also feature images of firefighters working through the wreckage.
"It's as sick as people who stole things out of the place," said Firefighter Tommy Fee of Queens Rescue Squad 270. "The image of firefighters at ground zero should not be used for this stuff, for politics."
The ads do not mention Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry, focusing instead on improving Bush's image after criticism by Democrats in recent months.
"I would be less offended if he showed a picture of himself in front of the Statue of Liberty," said Tom Roger, whose daughter perished on American Airlines Flight 11.
"But to show the horror of 9/11 in the background, that's just some advertising agency's attempt to grab people by the throat."
Hughes said the ads are a tasteful reminder of what the country has been through the last three years.
"I can understand why some Democrats might not want the American people to remember the great leadership and strength the president and first lady Laura Bush brought to our country in the aftermath of that," she said.
