I understand why there might be questions. There have been some nasty rumors going around backcountry.com where she worked. I don't know all of the rumors, but I can tell you that each one that I have heard so far is not true. I suspect that 'concerned maggots' is someone that either works for backcountry.com or is friends with someone who works there(based on the questions he asked)

I don't take offense at someone asking these questions. It hurts to say everything that went on and that I have found out, and that is why I haven't posted it all.

Some of the maggots here know the full story. They have kept their mouths shut to keep from hurting my wife's reputation in any way. I am not going to post everything that has happened, and the details of why she may have done it on the public forums. I want people to remember her for the good things.

If you really want to know the details, you can send me a PM. I have been completely honest with everyone on here, and will be honest with anyone that wants to know everything. Altachic, Yogachick, I know you both have thought something was not quite right, please send me a PM...especially you Altachic..maybe you can stop some of the rumors at bc.com I know the names of everyone involved, and wont disclose them in public.

The only possible exception being: if his veiled remarks re: a double-life led by his wife had anything other than truth backing them up, it would add another layer of sadness on top of an already sad situation. Unless he says this is the case, I am not going to doubt him.

That was my take on it too. I remember the early musings about a collection and I have no recollection of any mention of financial difficulties until the thread discussing a collection was well and truly established. Initially flowers for the funeral were mentioned then the discussion amongst posters was for other ways to help. Schmoe's opinion was not known at this time.

I'm a kind but sceptical British ol' bag but I have absolutely no misgivings about Schmoe's intentions. He has a right to see that thread. Hopefully he'll ignore the misguided nonsense and see how much support he has.

I'd be a lier to say I haven't speculated and a few of the maggots over here know my thoughts but I would never want Schmoe to feel pressured to air personal and painful information. I'm admire the dignity of his response.

At this point, we already know that schmoe has read the thread in question, and has chosen to answer via PM to the OP and to anyone who wishes to discuss the situation via PM. In my mind, this makes schmoe even more of an honorable and brave human being than he has already shown in this tragic situation. I can't imagine finding the will to answer these kinds of questions in the middle of grieving for my soul mate.

I have never been one to care about gossip. I think gossip sucks, even when it's based on reality. Who really cares? It's none of my business. I sent a donation because I wanted to help a fellow snowslider remember that there is good in the world and that there are so many wonderful reasons to make it through even the darkest times. I don't care how he uses the money I sent.

As for the tasteless thread in question, I think schmoe is handling it the way he sees fit and he has my support.

I do think the OP should get a grip and delete it. I also think someone is going to out the OP, if the OP doesn't do it himself/herself. Better to out yourself and make a public apology than to have the community hand you your photochopped ass on a platter.
