Telemark help tommarow at the Bird

    OK Guys,

Right now I don't exactly have the heart to snowboard(since that is what me and Britt always did together). I want to get out though, so I rented some Tele's from REI today and am going to be up at snowbird tomorrow.

Anyway, I don't really know what I'm doing. I've messed around a bit on my splitboard in tele format, but that is all. Anyone willing to show up for a few minutes at chickadee and make sure I don't kill myself? Will be with a group of friends, but we are all Tele jongs, and none of us has tried it before.

If willing to help and at least explain WTF I'm supposed to be doing, send me a PM with your # and I'll give you a buzz tonight or tomorrow.
"JONG!!!!!" is the sound a lift tower makes when a gaper runs into it.

Think of it as a constant toe side edge. Weight your uphill ski, not the downhill ski. You will get the hang of it quickly! Have fun and I am glad you are getting out.

Wish I could help you out. I love teaching folks to tele. Good on you for trying something new. All I can say is ski fast and take chances.

Hope you enjoy your day tomorrow. And the day after that.....
I didn't believe in reincarnation when I was your age either.

ask most tele skiers here, they rarely lift the heel and make an actual "tele-turn", remember you can use force to push down with the heel and make "real" turns

    flame war starting in 3.......2..........1

    have fun, learning something new

I can tell you that if you somehow get turned around backwards, you will fall and bust your knees thanks to the lack of heel attachment! Sounds like your snowboard background may help ^^^ good tip on the "long toe-side edge" - wish I'd got that little nugget before I tried! I also can't stress the equal weight thing enough - that killed me - along with the fact that my heels weren't safely locked down..

Have fun Shmoe - good call on getting out & about!

edit: ack. no 'c' in Shmoe!!!

hey get ready to feel the burn, It will feel good not knowing what you are doing I loved it when I started out. I can't really offer you lessons becuase I myself am new and still have no idea whats going that and I fixed the problem. It was fun but the learning curve was too much for me. Have fun man try not to crash into too many weekend warriors.
I don't hunt because the word hunting infers the probability of failure. JOhNGchrist goes killing.

Whoa, late call - I was prolly heading into the bc Sunday, but if you haven't gotten anyone to bite yet, pm / email ASAP & I'll shell out for my first bird ticket evar.

(Just don't count on high quality instruction - when my dad asked me "how do you stand up again?" my answer was "uhh, I don't know, you just sort of roll back up onto your feet, like this." - later I tried locked-heel gear & realized it's a PITA compared to tele. )
