    whats up with avalanche.org?

been trying to get the avy report all day with thoughts of maybe taking people's advice and going touring tommarow but I haven't been able to get in to their page all day.

Anyone know what conditions are like in the wasatch right now? I'm assuming bad since it dumped last week and it has been warm all this week, but I haven't been keeping up on things.

It was considerable, with pockets of high on N through E to S aspects as of this morning. probably drop down to considerable all the way around tomorrow. Find some mellow pitches with people who have been out lately. With the 2-3 feet of new snow in the past week on top of the mess January left, the potential slides are getting bigger. But the skiing's getting better.

Glad to see you taking an interest in the good things in life.

A day in the mountains may provide a much needed distraction; however, if you don't really want to go (touring), you shouldn't go. You already know the back country is a place where you need your head in the game. You'll still have a good time if you spend your day inside the ropes.

I know this is a little off topic, but curious how the conditions at Alta are right now. I'm making a trip out there in a couple weeks. Hoping it's better than the slushfest we have in the PNW right now.

    Avy report from my observations.

Mill Creek in west porter has great skiing on north through north east. No whoomping, or associated sketch.

Today however, in LCC, was a different story. Skinned up north facing trees for 2k, then swung around to the east aspect with a slightly steeper angle. Had a 100 foot diameter whoomp with a 4" drop. Almost slid, and was almost a bad deal. Scared the shit out of me.

Be careful when you change aspects. Aspect is everything. Saw a bunch of higher elevation naturals on NE aspects.

Stay north, stay in the trees, keep angles less than 32, stay off wind pillows and open slopes steeper than 32. Be conservative.

Just call the avy report at 1-888-999-4019 and press 1 for the Wasatch. I know it's old school but it still works.
