FYI Frontrange Mags: New shop in Golden

Alpenglow just opened up a new shop right near my house. Right off 93. It is near the 7-11 right before you get to the intersection with 58 and Clear Creek Canyon. They have a ton of alpine stuff. As far as I know before Alpenglow only had tele and AT. I'm not sure if their other shop is still open.

No, its in that new building in the same lot as the 7-11 right next to the new Anytime Fitness gym. (Gotta love when they build a new gym that sits less than 1mi from 4 excellent bike trails!)

I thought everyone love BendGay? I haven't been to the new AlpoGay but the other is cool if you like overpriced crap. I miss Mounting Skankers in Denver, but the best shop around is Nepturd Skankingneering.

Yeah, Alpenglow got bought out...I forget by who, but the old shop is closed. I think they are putting a 24 hour gym in there also. In addition, Bent Gate is opening a bike shop across from Coors Tech.

Dobish from the board works there and is one of the most laid back dudes in the world. The rest of the guys kick ass, too! I am sorry that you had a bad experience there. I have had nothing but good dealings with the folks from BG.

I have to agree with Rontele. My office is about a block away from BG and stop in there all the time. I've never had anything but great service.

ditto on Rontele's experience at BentGate. Got nothing but good things to say about them.

I think Alpenglow was bought by Christy's?

As for Neptune, mentioned by Ireallyliketoski, if you're talking about a shop that is too core, it's Neptune. I live in Boulder and I won't shop there.

Dunno why (must look like a gaper ), but have had the same experience half a dozen times. i.e. I asked if they had any Dynafit boots in stock and the dood pointed to the back of the store (without making eye contact cuz he was too busy watching a climbing video.)

I've had good experiences with Alpenglow and Bent Gate, both. But I've also had some bad experiences with Bent Gate, primarily related to ski tuning and/or mounting and doing things incorrectly or not on time. Unfortunately, they've made enough mistakes with me that I will never go back for that type of service there again. I do think the employees there are great and that they all can provide a wealth of information. I also think they have some great sales on their inventory in the spring, which I appreciate a great deal. The mistakes make on their service largely has to do with a lack of proper paper work and/or communication- a battle every shop fights as it grows bigger.

This surprises me too as Steve and Jay are techically as competent as anybody I know when it comes to mounting skis, etc. They are one of a handful of folks (besides marshal) and gary at ski haus in the 'Boat that I would trust mounting my gear.

I hope Dobish reads this and passes this along. I have had nothing but postiive experiences both with the staff and the shop work and I am sorry to hear that people haven't had the same expereinces.

The new Alpenglow is easy to miss because there is no signage yet. Only a plastic banner hanging on the side of the building. I didn't realize that It's owned by Christy's. Oh well, at least it isn't owned by Sports Authority....

Maybe they were sick of answering the same question half a dozen times and figured you'd remember the answer from the first time?

you were about three-four miles from the most ambidextrous gloves north american headquarters, what the hell is wrong with you? I like to stop at the sev and get gas and a tall boy Keystone on Friday afternoons for the 93 slog.

A few years ago I was wearing Fox Racing hoodie in there and all I wanted was a new Patagucci capilene. I wandered around looking for about 15 minutes, emps would make eye contact and look away like they didn't see me, and continue spraying about the sick mixed route they just sent in the canyon. I think they thought I was a sledneck or something.
I don't go in there anymore.
I'd echo positive experiences at Bent Gate.

I live right by the new Alpenglow, and commute by that building every single day...it did only open less than a month ago, the unit it's in had been vacant for quite some time after it was constructed.

As far it getting bought out, that's old news, almost two years. The owner Chris told me he was bought by Christy's and is now an "employee" per se, but they liked the angle of the shop and continue to let him run it how he likes. Him, Jen and Neil have always been super cool...I dig that shop. And they have had alpine gear for quite some time too. Two seasons ago I bought an entire new Volkl alpine setup there.

I recently have begun shopping at Bent Gate too for a few things, and will agree the folks there are always mighty helpful. I have heard tuning takes a while, but everyone is super knowledgable and friendly. Dobish and my other friend Ian for sure.

Back to Alpenglow, I'm stoked it's by my house because now I can have more beers there and walk home, heh heh. What a fuckin' cool shop.
