    Alpine report for Friday

    One word: DEEP

OK, a few more words: GF and I drove up last night, rolled into Truckee around 10pm - monster snow banks up on Tahoe Donner where I live, and the driveway is completly blocked in by a combo of 5 feet of new snow and the city plow creating a monster berm that the Subaru was just not gonna clear......so an hour later we had a little tunnel dug out to squeeze the car into te driveway...

alarm went off @ 6:30am, in the car and rolling down 89 @ 7:30am, coffee in hand. ICall snow-phone just for shits and giggles......52 inches in 2 days, top of mountain untouched....in line for Summit 6 chair @ 8am - already about 20 or so crazies in line (heard one dude say "I got here just after seven"...nice)...bombs echoing up above Beaver and Estelle and Scott....stomach all funny....the GF looks at me, shakes her head, and says "you have that crazy look in your eyes...relax, there is enough snow for everyone".......hehehhe...

Chair starts spinning just as the sun starts to poke through the clouds...holy fack - is it gonna pop blue bird on top of all this goodness before us?

Grab maybe the 10th or so chair up, and nod to the GF - pointing out Keyhole.....she says, OK, I can't make that climb/traverse on the snowboard, I'll ski Beaver and see ya back at te chair......man I love this girl...

Peel off the chair like a bat out of hell, and proceede to make the skate/climb/ up to Keyhole, sweating, heart beating, all jacked-up....drop Keyhole with a little pop off the cornice and land in some nice fluff, first big sweeping right hand turn right down the gut of the run sends a blower wave of pow over the head, cough, cough, momentarily blind, next big sweeping left hand turn puts me right in the right hand fin of the run, pop a little air turn off that back into the center and really pick up some speed to launch the little cliff in the middle (only 10 feet or so, but in mind, felt like 50) and hit it dead center, nice tight air,........whoompp.....blower over the head again, blinded, back into the run-out and straight line it back to the chair.....big SEG on my face, helmet and goggles caked with snow, laughing like a kid.......

repeat for the next 4 hours on Scott, hike upper Beaver, Arts, etc, leave at 1:30......legs smoked, soul satisfied.....

    a good Friday indeed.....

That's a run worth worth memorializing.

My first run in Promised Land:

The water is trapped in white crystals for the winter, but I flow like spring melt. Perfectly spaced trees all the way down, drifts and ridges and pillows. Feel the push and give of fat skis on bottomless pow, hearing nothing except the soft hiss of snow washing past my head at each apex. I flow like spring melt, and for minutes I am perfect.

hey spats @ onehotchili, nice TR's! Glad everyone got the goods on Friday @ Alpine! It was great - not as light as some of those cold storms in Dec - but epic nonetheless......

we all need to get together one day and make some turns and meet one another.....i will be back up next w/e as i have some friends coming to Tahoe.....and possibly mid-week if the gods smile and bring another foot plus storm....

I'll be up at the Summit, I'm sure we'll hook up there. Thursday at Sugar was actually a better day for me because there were a lot less people; Friday was a zoo and stuff got tracked out really quickly. But that first run was probably worth $39 by itself.

There are some great lines right now in the Sherwood Cliffs area...things are so filled in now that there are a lot of tiny curvy straightlines going through the rock bands. UT tech line crew take note!
