    Skinning music?

Anyone have any tips for good skinning music? Something that helps you get into a rhythm, that helps you walk and your mind to empty, you know, meet the buddha type feeling. I don't have any music that is good like this.

Thought some trance or something like that would be good but don't really know where to start (and I started by searching ). Any suggestions would be cool as long as they aren't country. Thanks

    And to iskibc: no.

I don't care what you skin to as long as I don't have to listen to it.

    Cool

"Working in a Coal Mine" by Devo (for that matter "Whip it" would be good too)

Fair enough point. I should clarify that I don't listen to music when skinning somewhere I perceive myself to be at risk from avys. That would be asking for me to be naturally deselected... Music is more for the long, mellower tours and spring stuff (and not any steeper stuff).

It's the big spring tours when I really need da beats to help with da rhythm. I'll check that stuff out, thanks KQ.

James McMurtry - "Every Little Bit Counts" would be a nice mellow walking tune.

If I am trying to go fast and hard, I listen to Public Enemy: Fear of a Black Planet.
If I am out for a mellow tour or a long daydreaming slog, I like the Mountain Goats.

Kewl, thanks, the inet connection will be buzzing tonight.

About electronica - I found some great tunes at www.audiodregs.com One of the songs on the Helly Hansen freebe DVD (the Collins segment) was from there. Good stuff.

Good list, I'd add Kruder & Dorfmeister (K&D sessions) and DJ Mark Farina. Just love TC's Lebanese Blonde for skiing/skinning. For more energetic skinning Zebrahead, Propellerheads, Megadeth. Cant wait to get an ipod. Goodbye to carrying tapes and cd's, ahhhh!

For skinning, I like music with a good beat and rhythm (but not too fast) and also not too loud or full of sound so that I can potentially hear my surroundings. Recent favorite:

Yellow. Don't know if it works for skinning but it sure works for single-handling a sailboat at night.

drC - Who stopped catching up w/ music in the '80s anyways.

AC/DC - It's a Long Way to the Top (If You Wanna Rock & Roll)
The title kinda speaks for itself.

Nancy Sinatra & Lee Hazlewood - These Boots Are Made for Walkin'

German third reich march music might set you in the mood for walking but I'm not too sure about the political correctness and ethics if you listen to that. I have a collection of Oktober-fest CD's lying around that you might be interested in though...

Otherwise I've seen people around Valley X using other methods than music for meeting Buddha while skinning/skiing/boarding/whatever but I can't really recommend them for general awareness and safety precautions in the mountains.

Do you have "Who the fuck is Alice?" in German? Good to see you round here.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Kazaa is working hard for me right now.

I gave up the walkman in the backcountry. Thought I needed it, but the rhythm of my skis on the snow is sufficient. Puts me in better touch with my surroundings...
