    Source for random video “effects”

Any video peops out there know of any good sources for random “effects”. I’m on a Mac and outgrew iMovie quickly so now I’m using Final Cut express. Cool program with tons of power but it doesn’t have some of the generic effects I’m looking for like the 3-2-1 screen at the beginning of a viddy or overlays where it looks like the film is burning on the light…etc.

    Anyone gots some infos?

    TIA!

Go to Borisfx.com. Boris Continuum Complete is a plug in set that has 160+ different plugins that allow you to do a lot with minimal work. Burnt Film is one and it will give you the desired burned film look. Film Damage is another that is quite good to add scratches, hair, dust, grain, color tinting, etc. Final Effects Complete is an oldy but a goody designed by someone long ago but bought a couple of years ago by Boris and they updated the plugins to make them work with the newer systems. All of their plugins are available for a 15 day free trial where they work 100%. After the 15 days they time out and render an X onto the image.

They also have a pretty decent compositing app called Boris RED. It is actually a combo of Boris Grafitti and BorisFX. RED will probably be a little over your head but it would be good to download and play around with.

I use them all the time in After Effects and Final Cut Pro but am unsure if they work with Final Cut Express. I see no reason why they wouldn't considering they all use the AE API.

If you want a generic countdown you could always make one yourself if you know how to in After Effects. If you want, I could possibly make one in a week or so if I have time. PM me the format you are using and I will see if I can whip something up. Nothing fancy though as I am pretty darn busy.

Also, check out http://www.creativecow.com. They are a forum for all types of video professionals and newbies and they are product based. So go into the Final Cut Express forum and ask there. I am sure some people will point you in the right direction there. they have helped me with After Effects quite a bit in the past.

Also, I know Final Cut Pro has a built in countdown option when you select the print-to-tape function in the "file" menu. I am unsure if FCE has this. If they do, you could always print a timeline back to your tape with the countdown and then capture just the countdown from the tape onto your hard drive and then you will always have it.

Was just going to suggest doing the same thing. I'm 90% positive that FCE has the countown option. I only used the program for about a month before I purchased the full HD package. (something like $800 w/ education discount, but money well spent!)
