not sure whether you were agreeing with me on the fakeness or not so I will bite...

#1 - The Cheney avatar is supposed to make fun of him, not praise him.

#2 - looks to me like a nice use of the whole Toyota commercial type effects (The comet, the lockness monster, etc). This can easily be done with a good graphics house and since it is Quiksilver, I believe they got the flow for that.

#3 - I also don't think they would put something so blatantly illegal onto a commercial with their name on it. I am sure if someone threw 5 sticks of dynamite into a downtown pond/monument/park some serious shit would go down and Quicksilver would probably not want to be associated with that.

#4 - The water spray going upward from the explosion looked very CGI. It could have been the poor encoding for the web though that made it look so bad.

Didn't look fake. The camera gets wet with spray, and you can see the waves on the other side of the river slamming the shore in the background. The wave is also consistant with what I would think a small, dying wave from a dynamite blast would look like. It would be crazy expensive to pull off CGI that good.

Doctored up. I've seen that before, and the waves are nothing like that. Not from that small a blast...

    Fake.

There's no reason the camera was to fade-in THAT much on the spray but to hide our illusion until the fade out occurs with implanted footage.

To pull off an "effect" my professor always told me that "an effect is only believable when you can not tell it was an effect." Good sage advice. If the graphic house went through the trouble to make it in the first place, do you think they would forget about the background??? Plus, making it look like water hit the lense could be done by an intern at a post house.

What you would think! Is there any basis on your opinion?

I mentioned that, but it is infact Quiksilver. Toyota pulls CGI this good with every commercial they produce. Most major maunfactures do actually... Ever seen the Chevy/GMC transparent box commercial go over the truck while it is driving? You think that is real?
