another 'help me figger out what ski to get' thread...sorry

    current quiver....

Black Diamond Verdict 180cm with dynafits
    Atomic REX 184cm with 912ti

    I'm 6' and 180lbs.

got a pair of Fritschis sitting in my basement that desperately want a ski...but what to get?

I'm tired of skiing a dynafit rig inbounds on powder days and my ol' REX's just don't quite cut it anymore as a resort deep snow ski....

found a good deal on some 182cm Karhu PFD's last week, then returned them after reading some reviews talking about the oddball dimensions of the ski (too much sidecut for a powder ski and too big of a tail).

Would like to find something that is a little fatter than the Verdicts (at least a 100mm waist, preferrably not much bigger than 110mm) but would be comfortable to ski all day at a resort once the powder is all tracked up. Don't think I want a ski that is more than 185cm long.

Seen good deals recently on the 182cm 4frnt vct....that seems like it would fit the bill nicely, but it ain't that much fatter than the Verdicts. Still wishing I could get some Prior Doughboys, but damn the price on those is high.

Any suggestions on other skis I should be considering?

    Where do you ski?

    How fast do you ski?

    What terrain do you ski?

    Do you huck and stomp?

In other words, saying you ski powder at a resort is not enough to go on...

thanks for letting me know that i wasn't providing any info about me....

    Where do you ski?
primarily ski in the washington cascades- alpental, baker, crystal, a few trips to the selkirks every winter. i put in more days in the backcountry than inbounds, so I'd like my next ski to be a good choice on the days that its deep freshies inbounds or those days that its calf-deep elephant snot in the backcountry and I want a better bulldozer than my dynafit-mounted verdicts.

    How fast do you ski?
usually don't ski all that fast, but definitely looking for something that will help me ski faster than I do in cut-up cascade concrete, but still float really well.

    What terrain do you ski?
ski darn near everything from steeps, trees, wide open glaciers, try to avoid bumps but they are usually unavoidable when skiing at alpental....being able to push the ski to do tighter radius turns in the trees would be nice without it feeling really squirrely when allowed to run in open terrain.

    Do you huck and stomp?
nope...i like to throw myself off stuff under 10' on powder days, but its usually just for the amusement of my buddies.

i know the VCT is a twin...but having a turned up tail is certainly not a requirement for what i'm looking for.

Look at the recommended ski and binder list
    http://tetongravity.com/forums/showthread.php?t=41028

Sounds like you want a medium stiff 185ish 105ish 25-30m radius all-arounder. There are tons in that category.

definitely was thinking about gotamas too....
can 183 gotamas ever be found on sale?
i was hopeful i could find a pair cheap this spring at REI when I saw them carrying that ski this season, but its been months since I've seen a pair there. Any shops in the sierras that are unloading gotamas right now?

cheapest i've seen is approx $500.

^ 2nd on the Blowers. They are a little heavier than you may want given your quiver, but they are a wicked resort fat ski
