Regarding the adopting my cat, Farnsworth. Specifically directed at Denver/Boulder area maggots

Colorado mags, do you want to consider adopting my cat?
I have come to the difficult conclusion that I need to consider giving away my beloved Farnsworth. I am in a serious relationship and my girlfriend is severely allergic to him. While this absolutely breaks my heart, I have to face this reality.

She is very compassionate about the situation and will not make me take him to a shelter--I could never do that. But what I would love more than anything else is to find a good home for him. Even typing this out brings tears to my eyes as he is my best friend in the entire world. He is easily the best cat you could imagine having (more like a dog), he is nice, friendly, so loveable, playful, and just a pleasure to be around.

He is 7 years old and well adjusted. He does get along with dogs, but not other cats. I wouldn't just want someone to take to help me out, but would want someone to take him because they would want him and love him for the rest of his life. In return for paying for all of his future food, litter, and medical expenses, I would also like the opportunity for some sort of visitation rights if possible (which is why I am asking the Denver/Boulder mags).

THose that have pets know how hard a decision like this can be and if any of you out there in maggotland really want my buddy, Farnsworth, please PM me.

    Rontal, out.

Farnsworth sounds delicious. I'll take him.

I can't take him, but I'll broadcast his availability amongst the cat-lovers I know.

He really is easily the most amazing cat, ever. Everyone that has crossed paths with him has concluded that. Ask Danno, he lived with him this summer.

Obviously, I am pretty protective of him and for good reasons. I think the one assurance I would probably need is that you could keep him for the rest of his life (about ten more years, I would guess). I adopted him two and half years ago after his previous owner passed away, so I could imagine putting the poor buddy into another home after this one.

Be careful. Your "serious relationship" might end as quick as it started and then you won't have your furry friend.

Heh. Not likely at this point. We are pretty committed to one another and have been dating almost two years at this point. Giving him to a Denver/Boulder maggot allows me the safety valve of getting him back god forbid my relationship goes to shit.

Difference between putting up for adoption and having a close friend, like KillingCokes take him.

If I was in CO I would totally be down. If you get really desperate....I would take him in WA. Road Trip time. I doubt you will have trouble finding someone to take care of him in CO though. It would also defeat the purpose of getting someone on the front range to take care of him
Probably something that other people may want to know - how does he get along with other cats?

Charlie Murphy could use another drinking partner
Seriously, this can’t turn into yet another ON3P thread....

That picture is unreal. I don't know how he gets along with other cats, except that when it was on his turf, he got a little territorial. He is a big baby though and declawed, so he could learn to get along with another cat.

He has lived with a dog before, a great Pyranees bitch that fucking loved the hell out of him. But he wanted nothing to do with her.

D- Have you tried some of the alternatives to reduce the allergyns that your GF reacts too?

    http://www.allerpet.com/bathing/bath1.htm

My wife is allergic (and has had asthmatic response to certain cats/houses with cats). We have the cat stay in the basement at nights, periodically wash it with allerpet, put a drop of Asepromazine in its food, and vacuum with HEPA filter. My wife has not had problems with the cat vis a vis allegy.

Again, it is a space issue. We want to move into an apartment because with my new job, working for your dad, I will be logging in the hours and won't have time to take care of a house

FWIW, my X husband was extremely allergic to cats, as is a very good friend. I've fed my cats nothing but Science Diet for their entire lives and am always very conscientious about keeping the house vaccuumed (daily) so the dander doesn't build up.

Neither one of those people ever had an allergic reaction in my house, and I watched both of them have reactions elsewhere. The vet told me that the Science Diet altered their dander somehow to reduce the allergic reaction.

You might give that a try if your GF can put up with it for a couple more months.

Sorry I'm not on the Front Range any more, otherwise I'd be very happy to provide housing for your friend. I'm a good cat mom - already have two and they're wonderful. If something doesn't work out closer, PM me.

I haven't really considered cats much, being more of a dog person myself. Combine a landlord that's strongly anti-dog (despite our 'large' backyard) and knowing I couldn't run him enough really makes me consider a cat - especially one as cool as yours sounds.

Plus, the 'doesn't get along with other cats' could help keep the neighbor's cats from crapping in my yard!

Wish you were in CA (except for the total lack of snow)
Everyone needs to believe in something. I believe I will have another beer!
