Actually, Powder, that was a sticker that Ride (snowboards) came up with, and reps only gave to shop dudes about four years ago..it says 'skiing is for little fat kids', and I have one on my helmet!

Can't see Burton making skis. I've seen the 07/08 hardgoods and there's not even a hint in there that they're diluting from what they do best. Some cool new binding tech though.

My old helmet has the "snowboarding is just a fad". Damn I need a new one for the new helmet. Wasn't there another one about cougars or something too?

What the throw back to baseless bindings?

If the rumor turns out to be true it wouldn’t surprise me at all. Burton is all about the mighty dollar and making as many of them as they can. The passion and soul is long gone.

I love the (some) products but I’m not huge fan of the business model.

Also Lib tech is making skis as well, Jamie Pierre is riding for Lib. My roommate has the Lib skis with magne-traction.

Are you sure? It's not like that was posted twice on page one or anything.

I'd recommend trying some of the following skis before you make this comment.
Line Prophet 130, Fattapus A'Lotta, Nordica SuperCharger, k2 Pontoon, pretty much all the Capitol skis... there are others, but thats a good start.

The turns I make on my Prophets are easily as fun as any to be made on a snowboard.

I sure hope this turns into another skiing vs. snowboarding thread.

    Those are the best.

Aren't those all just split boards, with lock down heels?

I'll catch fuzz for this, but I own a monoski, and although it is quite ghey in most conditions, skiing it in powder, as I have, is truly on of the most amazing feelings I have ever had on a ski/board. I have skied 2skis and a snowboard in amazing powder as well, and I am not trying to take anything away from them, but I wanted to address your opinion that nothing is as sweet as doing it on a snowboard, because it is just that - an opinion.

Hmmm...I started skiing in 1974, and went to the Stowe Ski Academy (briefly, till I discovered snowboarding in VT.) I could rip a bump or two on Olin Mark 4's at one time, and have skied a few times every year since then, except for two...NOW can I have an opinion?

This is bullshit. Burton has a whole list of product from boards to helmets and goggles that are off limits to shops that sell skis. It is called the Coalition Program, it protects small "core" board shops from having to compete with chain stores and conglamerate capitol mongrels like my ex-employer.

Case in point Burton's Biggest West Coast dealer is also a ski dealer so they CANNOT have access to the Coalition list product even though they make Burton more money than the coalition shops in California combined.

If Burton made skis what the hell would that mean for Coalition? Could a shop selling Burtons skis really be prevented from having Coaltion stuff as a result?

How can a brand have that snoody of a marketing ploy and renig so hard on their commitment to Snowboarding? Not to mention Jake Burton in interview has vehemently denied that he will ever produce skis.

Now is it just me or did that German guy on page one say Amplid skis were Burtons pet project out of the Spanish Factory? That is news to me, and more believable and discussion worthy news at that.

ps snowboarders suck! had to do it.

    His Name isn't Jake Burton.

And I agree, he is NOT making skis. The ski industry were shuch shitheads towards what he, Burt, and Tom were doing in the early years, I just don't see it as possible. Ya' never know, tho!

    PS: Skiers swallow!!!

    jibber jabber

I love to ski so much I never gave up my stiff plastic boots.Even when I discovered sliding sideways, I still couldn't shake that ski thing in my head. They called me a freak, those flimsy sorel booters.I was more a skiier on one giant ski.Always goin' fast, big GS turns, arcing that big ole ski , carvin' shit up.
somehow, shralpin' over picnic tables and school busses never really appealled to me.sliding down a staircase railing seemed kinda silly. go fast go faster.
It's really just a big ski, bend it. I'm over it, 2 planks are better than 1-
    snowboarding has become ....lame

Its been an industry rumor for a little while now and this seems to semi-confirm it. I heard they'll be under the Burton name, but setting up another side company with a different name seems to fit their business image a bit more.

Right, his name is Jake Burton Carpenter as everyone here knows by now. But he goes by Jake Burton all the time, google the two names. What's your point about that anyway, that "You knew him when"?

    Seriously, cut it out.
