Flexon addicts - the Kryption is here

Got a chance to fondle the new Glen Plake pro model Dalbello Krypton today! I just about creamed my pants. Holy shizzle doods.

All I can say is I can't wait to get my hands on a pair. Dalbello has adressed every durability/construction shortcoming of the Flexon and made it 10X better. A few highlights: the hinge point is now on the lower boot vs. the cuff piece, which should hold the heel back in the pocket far better. The buckles are burly alpine-style buckles (with teeth) in conjunction with the double-cable system. Burly and bomber.

Basically, take the old Flexon, improve it drastically, increase the construction quality by at least 100%, and you've got the Krypton. The rep said fit is similar, but with a bit more room in the instep. With a pair of custom footbeds, should work out nicely.

They also have interchangeable bootsoles, so that you can screw on a set of Vibram-style heel and toe pieces for AT use. SICK. Screw the freakin Garmont Adrenaline eh???

Can't WAIT to get my hands on a pair of these puppies next year.

Saw them at a demo day at Snowbasin, so no links, sorry. Slightly heavier than current version of the Flexon, but not too bad.

Didn't recognize the liner, but it looked beefy; lots of cushioning. I'm sure it was heat moldable...as most are these days.

Of course, now the question is whether K2 will actually buy Raichle.

Re the Kryptons, does anyone have a link to a picture ? I've searched on dalbellosports.com and also looked up Krypton in search engines, yet I can't find any info ....

I'm stoked about the part scavenging possibilities of this boot for touring boot stiffening !

    hot Hot HOT!!

I hope they're not too much heavier than Flexons. I'm not so psyched about the bigger instep as mine are reeaaally low. Then again my flexons are still mint

What's the tongue stiffness looking like?

And so they can take a vibram sole but have no walk (i.e. hinged heel) mode? Interesting...

www.dalbello.it is the website you are looking for, the boot in question is the CRX superide here in europe, if you dig around the site there is pleny of stuff about Glen Plake......I am trying to get a pair of these to replace my aging Richlee F1 pros, and maybee put my Lowa's out of action also (moving to phat touring skis has almost done this anyway)

Hmmmm. Those CRX Superides look pretty cool (a walk setting on the top freeride boot in the line) but nothing like a Flexon. There are no cables and no separate tongue (by the look of it). Are those definitely the boot that is being distributed as the Plake Pro Model? Particle, did the boots you saw have a walk setting?

Sorry, enquiring minds need to know.

I posted awhile ago on these, but have yet to find pics, http://tetongravity.com/forums/showt...&threadid=6505

The boot I saw did not have a walk mode, but the rep also said they were still tweaking it a bit. At that time it didn't have the interchangeable soles, which is cool they changed them.

Also he mentioned having three, interchangeable toungues with varying stiffness, and that it was easier to change them now.
Skiing, where my mind is even if my body isn't.

Don't know if this is the Plake Pro Model, but there are plenty of pics of Plake wearing it around the place.....No cables, true but then some versions of the flexon had strap clips not cables...look closely, especially at the different angle pics on the site, the thing Does have a seperate tounge...plake even says so if you reed all the junk on the site....it has clips instead of cables...I personaly hated cables...still do, the silmon symbio rental boot has them...

If it fits, it is likely I will wear it. Beefy boot + walk mode = good in Mulletizer's eyes. Was a bit confused - I read the Plake interview and he mentioned three-part boots but it looked in the pictures as if the tongue was a moulded part of the boot. Am interested to see what they turn out.

Thanks for the info, Idris and Particle and others.

If K2 has the Flexon molds, they'd better aggregate their advertising fecal matter.

There's a recent post from Seth on the K2 board talking about testing tongues last week.

I'm betting on a mid-season release, in typical K2 fashion.

I changed the wording, it originally read: he was testing tongues down south.

    I don't want to know.

    Cool

Bad news, only 3,000. Good news, looks schweeet.

Bretton Woods, N.H.(Ski Press)-The word was out long before Glen Plake’s new super ski shoe hit the streets.

Freeskiers, bump lords, chute kings and the country’s top powder pilots started e-mailing Dalbello Sports on an almost daily basis early last spring when news of the new ski boot started circulating through the ski community. They all offered the same plea: “When can I get my feet in these things?”

This November, their dreams come true. In one of skiing’s most eagerly awaited introductions, Dalbello Sports is finally bringing the next evolution in ski boots to market. And, in deference to Plake’s near-superhero status amongst North America’s best shredders, they’re calling it the Krypton.

“This is a freeride boot that can do it all,” Plake told a packed room of specialty retailers and invited media at the stately Mount Washington Hotel in Bretton Woods, N.H., during the boot’s official introduction. “I tested it everywhere from the bumps of California to the subzero hardpack of Vermont to the steeps of Europe, and it thrilled me in every situation and every condition. I’ve gotten everything I’ve asked for with the Krypton.”

The sleek, shapely 3-buckle boot really is a wonder of design. It looks fast standing still, combining Italian styling with Plake’s ethos that it also incorporate the slender sex appeal of a women’s leg in the form. But looks only go so far in this sport, and once Plake and Dalbello had the fashion down, they started concentrating almost solely (pun intended) on the function.

Here are some of the cool tech scoops: The boot uses a 3 piece “Cabrio Design” construction. Unlike traditional 2-piece overlaps, the “Cabrio” lets Dalbello use more rigid and responsive plastics than other boots without affecting the ease of entry or fit. Built on the famed Raichle Flexon platform, the two most far-reaching aspects of Krytpon are the Dynalink System, and Kinetic Response Technology. Via the middle buckle, the Dynalink secures the heel by connecting to the lateral and medial sides of the shell – not the cuff – for more control. Working in coordination with the flexible ribbed tongue, the boot flexes in unison with the movement of the leg for continual contact through the turn.

In a Pro and a CR Cross version, the Krytpon can be tricked out with “Landing Gear” boot boards for big air hounds, “Ride” for a softer forward flex, as well as adjustments for forward lean and lateral cuff canting.

Dalbello is only bringing 3,000 pair of the boot to North America this season, and those look to sell fast among some the top freeskiers and instructors on the mountain. Because of the Carbio Design, as well as the overall fit and control functions of the Dynalink, however, Dalbello also realizes the potential of the Krypton to supercharge the skiing of anyone, and plans to introduce a women’s model and more recreational targeted models in upcoming seasons.

“It’s an elite level boot in a design that can be skied by anybody!” said Dalbello Sports CEO Clint Lyon. FOMO on this innovative new snow slipper, go now to www.dalbellosports.com.
Skiing, where my mind is even if my body isn't.
