    Clipfix & rattail

Just got a pair of new clipfix skins and was wondering if a rat tail is still necessary ( driving a pan head screw into my skis ) to keep the tail in place.
Anybody have experience with this? Was thinking too much is better than to little.

    Thanks!

Get the length of the skin right and you shouldn't have to.

I have yet to ski the skins and have them tight. The reason I brought this up is it seems to easy for the tab on the clipfix to pop up and thus off. A quick small bungee to a pan head may resolve this.
Time to go and test it and then see I suppose.

what he said, adjust your front loop and alter length by a small amount.

Send them back to BD and have them swap the clipfix for the STS tail.

What kind of binding? you can often just loop the bungee around the heelpiece. Try that before drilling a screw into your ski.

    Or, just get STS.

good call, I am using Titanal III's it does not look like it is good to loop.

I don't know if the heel elevator is the same on Freerides as T III's but there is a little plastic nubbin under the heel lock/elevator on Freerides you can hook cord to to make a rat tail tie off point instead of a screw in your ski.

The STS is nice but the clipfix works fine if you have the length right. I make the length so the skin doesn't quite follow the camber of the ski. When you have the tip loop on and the heel hooked there is space between the ski and the skin (not much, maybe 1/4") and then the glue holds the skin to the ski when you press it on. Never had a problem with this method.

I did finally jump into this decade though and got some skins with the STS tail and they're pretty nice.
