After a day or two of hard skiing, my shin muscles become really tender. The next day I can't really put pressure on the front part of my boots without a lot of pain in the low (near the ankles) outer portions of my shin muscles. Needless to say, this makes skiing consecutive days difficult.
I don't think my problem is shin splints, which, according to the Mayo clinic, are experienced on the inner area of the shin, near the bone.
My boots (5-year old Nordica Grand Prix's) are stiff, which I generally like, but otherwise very comfortable. In any case, I can't afford new ones.
My current approach is to load up on Motrin or other over-the-counter painkillers while skiing. This makes skiing consecutive days tolerable but not always enjoyable.
Any advice or wisdom on this problem would be much appreciated. Many thanks.
