    Marker Touring Binding?

Saw the pics from the SIA show, and they look pretty fucking bomber. Does anybody have any info about these yet?

but the real question is how bomber they will be. 16DIN sounds great, but im still going to be leery until someone actually gets these on the snow.

They actually look and feel prety bomber. I don't think that I've seen a plastic 16 din binder before either, but they work prety well thought out with the exception that the climbing bail is impossible to activate while instride. It's located under the binding plate like you would find on the treckers etc......

Also the whole binding slides backwords when switching to youring mode. Wich should provide for more flotation while skining, but at the expense of more tip to deal with on steep kickturns.

These bindings DO NOT look nor feel like traditional markers, and they have more incomon with the Marker high din race stock than the consumer binders.
No word yet on the elasticity......

I talked to Larry (the bootfitter), whom, as far as I know, puts marshal to shame in his hoarding of high-din solly bindings, said he saw them and he's ordered a pair already. personally, that inspires confidence, at least for me.

Killer, I haven't had a chance to fondle them yet, and have always been worried about the rise on freerides and stuff, great to hear positive stuff already, they look pretty fucking solid. Think thats gunna be the binding to go on the 193 EHPs...

i fondled them, they are pretty bomber construction, much lighter than they look. they sit much lower on the ski than the freerides or naxo. as stated in the pics thread , my only gripe is you have to dismount yr boots from the binder to switch from tour mode. how it handles in the field is a whole other ball of yarn to be determined.

    WHO MAKES THIS THING??
    Is it Marker homegrown?
Or something re-badged or co-developed from another supplier?
Any idea how extensively its been field tested?

Interesting use of the Look style heel throw. Almost looks like a PX from the back.

Is that sliver metal thing in the middle what engages the rails/plate when the binding is slid forward and locked into ski mode?

This could be an interesting development if its a more solid connection and a lower boot height for a similar weight as Naxo/Fritschi. I might actually ski a marker again.

    Any ideas on weight??

Tried searching, but couldn't find the "many threads".

Mostly just references and pics from SIA show.

    http://www.couloirmag.com/mfgs/dynam...?articleID=267

from coulourmag "The Duke. Key Stats: Weight: 400g/pr heavier than Naxo N21"

    That would be 2665g or 5lbs 15oz

I always take my skins off without taking my skis off. It's fast and easy. I do take the skis off when I put the skins on, though.

I saw a super old pair of markers on some gapers sticks in the liftline today. The binding was called the M40, and the toepeice looked suspiciously like the dukes, except extremely cheap and plastic looking.

Look pays marker to use that heel piece. its a marker design. I am going to to try to find where I read that so you will believe me.

with all this talk of the duke, did anyone else notice that new toe design on the standard alpine binding?
looks more like a look\rossi than a marker.
    any comment on those squaretail?

Combining the images of the Duke at
    http://www.freeride.se/img/content/large/1859.jpg

    http://thegoat.backcountry.com/?q=75

    and

    http://www.wildsnow.com/?p=594

with my fantasy makes me wonder if there will be separate mounting plates availiable for the Duke so that you get an extra pair of plates for your extra skis and would not have to get a whole new set of bindings. The hel plate is obviously no problem, but its not clear if you could slide the toe part of its plate. On the other hand, its not clear that you can not do it either, so I'll keep my hopes up.
