    Pow Tips

Hey I have a pair of Rossi Scratch Fs, 85 at the waist and mounted near center, I know TGR is more non-twin stuff but I thought I would ask here becasue NS is retarded when it comes to this...How can I ski powder better and get a good float from near center mounted skis?

    Thanks a bunch!

This is like asking: "How can I hit a 300 yard drive with my sand wedge?" It's not a matter of form as much as equipment.

Well this is coming from the frustrated guy who spend his last pow day ragdolling down the upper cirque from tip dive on his relatively center-mounted mojo 90's. I'm either remounting back 3cms or buying different skis. So there you go.

    1) Buy bigger skis.
    2) Or ski faster.
    3) Or remount far back.
    4) Or recamber your skis until they're Spatulaesque.
    5) Or do all of the above.

    wider skis would help

go search mtnlions gear swap thread

you should find something big pretty cheap
For sure, you have to be lost to find a place that can't be found, elseways everyone would know where it was

    Ask yourself these questions.

    1) How much do you ski backwards? (lets call it what it really is)
    2) Can you afford a new pair of skis?
    3) How much do you love skiiing pow vs skiing backwards

Unless you ski park all the time, ski backwards 50 percent of the time, spin 9s all the time, and it never snows where you are then you have two (edit:three) options.

    Poor Man=Remount much further back
Working Man=Get new, more well rounded sticks (Seths/Mojo 90s/Scratch BCs, Gotamas), sell the old ones
Rich Man/Messed up Priority Man=Get new pow specific sticks.

Just as the above poster said, can't hit a 300 yard drive with your sand wedge.

ps, I have skied some 20+" days by accident on my FSs (which aren't center mount...) It can be done, and is still fun but don't expect to be doing much leaning forward

i think everybody has to learn how to ski pow on skis that are slim @ the waist. It'll only make you a bad ass pow skier when you upgrade to fatty skis. I learned how to ski pow on shitty atomic beta rides years ago that were maybe 70 at the waist before I upgraded to powder skis that are reverse cambered, 136 at the waist.

Lean far back on the skis and keep your legs as tightly together as you can. I recommend getting your thighs into steel shape cause after one run, your legs are gonna be on fire.

Learn on your scratch fs if that is all you have and when you can, go for something fat. The bigger the better. People at first are intimidated when they see huge skis and say stupid things like, "oh, well, those take no skill, there's no challenge in that!" all i gotta say is: "gaper!" it's called technology! if you're such a badass, why don't you ski on skis that were manufactured in the 50's with leather boots and straped bindings.

    Yeah Man. True dat.
I remember how my old Rossi's (W70ish) would disappear into the pow, but there'd be, like, a little "fountain" that the each pointy tip would throw up. Used to think that was so cool
...and screw the Dudes, get some powder ribbons (not leashes, ribbons) for when it is deep...

I think you just need to work on skiing powder. Skis are fine. Remount a few centimeters back if need be.

I plan on getting some seths for next season but for now I would like to try to make the best out of my current park skis.

In that case you have three options:
    1. Remount (suggested method)
    2. Deal with it
    3. Don't ski powder

In any case, you're going to have to ski fast and lean back... the FS just isn't a very wide ski.
