    1-23-07 TR: Suicide Chute

Headed up this morning reeeeal early with JoshP and my boss (non mag) to check out the fresh 6-8" in Suicide. Well, it turned out to be knee to waist deep in spots, and pretty settled in. Real variable snow too, much of it heavy and sticky. No whoomping or cracks though, but we were on pretty high alert, what with the several feet of pure sugar facets underneath. Some pics:

I don't normally hang out with my boss at 5:30am, but made an exception today.

    JoshP, smiling for once.

Peeking over the Monte Cristo side. Valley filling up with mank as usual.

The entrance shot. Good long chute.

    Josh again.

The boss, dreaming of TPS Reports.

Peeking back at our line. Pretty nice Tuesday morning.

Love that shot, thanks for the that.

Side note; skied "Country Lane" two summers ago while out for some work and a guy in the party ahead of us took a slide from the lookers left side of the top cornice into the first right hand block of the chute (maybe twenty yards down?...above your left ski in that entrance pic). He hadn't put his helmet on yet and was sidestepping across the bottom of the cornice into position to put his skis on. Pulled himself out of the melting snow pack, hiked back up scabbed and bleeding, clicked in and took off without saying much. He slid right by me and thankfully hit feet first....scary shit.

Glad it was deep for you two!

Nice work guys. Suicide is one of my favorites. So quick to knock out, I'm really surprised it wasn't hit right after the storm.

How's the choke looking and how was the boot w/ the sugar snow?

    Nevermind about the boot.

    No way...

I think phatfreeheeler was refering more to the usual difficulty experienced when booting up through weaker snowpack..

Maybe they should rename it to Josh's run. Now that it seems to be his fav haunt.

Looks like nice snow in there.

Skied some of that sticky variable pow yesterday near Hellgate. Not easy skiing.

Now I'm officially fired up. KMO and I are going to be in Park City tomorrow. Can't wait to turn in that variable pow. If we can find it.

    Good times fellas.
Here is a NEW link to a not quite so shitty video I made from this morning:
    http://savefile.com/files/439281

I just got a new camera, stoked to do some cool stuff with it, but obviously I have alot to learn. First item on the agenda, a better hosting service than google

Josh's Chute, I like the sound of that, I will have to get ahold of Andrew Mclean before the Chuting Gallery, 2nd Edition is published.
