    Help w/Elan

Have a chance to pick up a pair of Elan M Series skis at a ridiculous price. Anyone know anything about them? They've got a beautiful cherry wood top sheet and run 129-99-118 with a fair amount of flex. I'm thining of mounting some Naxos on 'em.

05/06 999. I have the 06/07 in a 192. They ski a lot shorter than you would expect because they have a really tall tail. I like em, but they are a lwhole lot softer than I was expecting. Not so good at high speeds on hardpack. I mounted them on center once, then remounted 25mm back, and I find that they perform better in the crud now.

Your "ridiculous" price shouldn't be more than $300 in the wrapper, because SkiDepot.com was selling them for $299 over the summer.

    Oh yeah, FWIW i'm 5'11, 185.

I have a 192 777 and its fairly stiff. However I hear the 999 is a noodle. I would fondle a pair before you take the plunge.

I had a pair and sold them before I even skied them. It is a twin tip and yes, very soft and very "short". I hear they ski will but in soft snow. The 08 model will be beefer although beefier and not the turned up tail.

I also think they are a bit on the heavy side, not rediculous, for a resort ski, but maybe a but much to be putting naxos on em.

Not the 999, that is a real light ski.

Many thanks for the replys, info and feedback. I'll think this one over a little. (BTW - the "ridiculous price" is $225.00)

Anyone else have any thoughts on the best mounting point for the 999. Searching found no results other than the post from Caucasian Asian.\\

    Thanks

I don't have much time on the 999's, but I was pretty pleased with them mounted neutral. Not a great ski, but a very good ski. They ski powder very well, and do pretty well on groomers, but are a little soft for crud based on what I've seen. At $225 I'd jump on them. They were on the top of my list for my AT set up this year. They didn't make the cut for me, but my dad picked up a pair and put Naxo's on them.

I have 2 pairs of the 777's in a 184 and a pair of 192 999's mounted with freerides, they are rather light for a big ski. For the PNW it would be a good everyday ski in my opinion.

I wonder if you saw Plake skiing on the 07/08 999wood. Apparently Elan is re-releasing the wood topsheet version of the 999 from last year, stiffening it up, lowering the tail and keeping the dimensions the same. That is based purely on second hand info from other forum contributors. No inside knowledge. If all that is true - it sounds like a sweeeeet ride.
