What the hell happened to The Snowboard Journal?

The Snowboard Journal is no more. Instead, subscribers get FutureSnowboarding.

OK - so I know from MBS that there were some issues with Frequency over the title "The Snowboard Journal", as the same phrase is part of the Frequency's title. I suppose TSJ could have changed the name. But a complete shutdown? What happened? TSJ is like Frequency in that it's published 4 times a year at a hefty $12 / issue price.

TSJ was the shit. Big format, thick paper, the heaviest photos and intelligent writing. It was "The Surfers Journal" of snowboarding. No disrespect to MBS or the Frequency crew, but I prefered the clean lines and format of TSJ over Frequncy. Frequency seemed a bit more dark/punk compared to TSJ.

So now I will receive FutureSnowboarding. Fuck that shit. The last issue had articles on pros' tattoos, best party ski towns, and a year in the life of Shaun White. Talk about shallow. Fuck that shit twice. And this is after my wife got me a gift of a two year subscription to TSJ for $80.

how do I get in touch with Jason Ford (ex-publisher of TSJ)

and if anyone has the first 3 issues and wants to get rid of them, i'll take them off your hands.

Snowboard journal was the only snowboard rag I bought in the last 5 years. They were also the only mag to acknowledge the existence of hardbooting (except for Jeff Greenwood's pic in TWS - Airing the pipe on a GS board)
    Sad to see them go.

    edit for pic

I don't know all the details, but it had nothing to do with Frequency. Something about their parent company. I agree it was a great-looking magazine.

This isn't an official source, but it's the first thing I found on Google:

I love that pic of Greeny. I can't wait to make some turns with Lisa K. and him at Bachelor in March.

I miss TSJ too. Its funny you posted this. I was just looking at the premiere issue this morning. Its still sitting on my reading rack (back of my toilet) and I peruse it periodically. I think that's the only copy I have left in the house. I probably should have saved them, they'll be collectors items some day (today?).

    Some more hardboot love:

Dude I still don't get how in the hell that you would think that Frequency has a dark punk feel to it?????? Are you on CRACK????

Seriously, Frequency has probally one of the cleanest un punk designs around and it defintly isn't dark.......

Did you only read the Scotty Whitlake issue??????? Do you judge all magazines by a single issue? Do you judge a book by it's cover??????

In fact jsut to prove my point. PM me your addy and I will personally pay out of my pocket to prove to you that Freuency isn't dark nor gothic.

^^^^^^ Uggggg... that hardboot photo makes my legs hurt.

That a crying shame about the Snowboard Journal. I picked up my first copy just a few weeks ago and it was AWESOME. The quality of the printing and photography actually made it worth the price. We get all the other mags for free at work but I was planning to subscribe to them.

Oh yeah one other thing, please do not reffer to "the snowboard journal" as TSJ. That HURTS. Frequency has owned the trade mark The Snowboard Journal, long before the snowboard journal was ever published or concieved.

calm down there, cowboy. yes, i read the Whittlake issue, and a couple others. it was a sliding scale comparison and maybe you are interpreting my comment a bit further down the spectrum than I intended.

I appreciate the offer, G, but i'll check it out on my own. no need to go to extra lengths. It is appreciated and I still look forward to making some turns with you in your neck of the woods some time.
