    Just supposing...

...some plans Brownmonkey and I had laid had just fallen through in a depressing and horrible manner and we had flight credits with KLM to fly just about anywhere (within reason) next Saturday.

Where do you figure our best bets would be to score some decent snow and a fun time to help cheer our miserable selves up? I was thinking maybe the San Juans, Kicking Horse, Whistler etc but I really am pretty hignorant of these areas and the inside line. I know Tahoe and I know Jackson but these places are not looking primo pow picks right now.

w/c Saturday 27th is the only window we've got in our normal schedule of running cars into trees and stealing wheels.

Follow up question: Does staying at Pemberton have much going for it instead of staying at Whistler/Blackcomb/Disneyland BC?

Edg did you actually manage to scrounge a lift to Scotland? If so, can we have a Higland TR please.

Roo, Pemberton is fairly quiet night life wise. You would need a car to swing that but it's kind of a nice little spot. I don't have any rec's on places to stay there though.

    Search Function, JONG!

Seriously though, if you've got nothing holding you back, fly to Vancouver and ski Whistler. I wouldn't even think twice about it.

    Option 1:
The best skiing in the world right now

    Option 2:
    Silverton/Crested Butte/Wolf Creek/Taos
All but CB seem to be skiing very well right now and especially if you swing through taos you'll get a unique US ski experience (and I'd always include CB cause even if only minimal stuff is open that place rocks, literally...and it appears both surface lifts are open with some good steeps + get goldenboy to take you for a tour)

    Option 3:
PNW I'd say that getting on the Crustal/Alpy/Baker Express would be preferable but Whistler can't be bad can it?

The interior BC/AB places look to be skiing well right now and the jet appears basically favorable for them right now too.

Things here are great. We haven't had any major snow for about a week but conditions over all are good. Our snow pack is above average this year. Best in the area is still Kicking Horse (I think) but both here and the Banff area are way above average. Both Banff and KH have some snow in the forecast today and tomorrow.

I second LB's suggestion for AK, getting 10-12 inche every day or two doesn't suck. It looks like there's a huge storm rolling in today, so picking a window to fly in could be tough, but from the looks of things worth it.

    Good Luck,
    Jay

ps; or you could come to MN, visit the Mall of America and ski some shitty 200+ vert. I'll be coaching on Sat Morning, but could sneak away and pick you up at the airport.

Checking the forecast for Taos. Looks promising and the base is there.

That is somewhere I've always wanted to ski.

A buddy of mine picked the best year to leave Utah and move to Wolf Creek. All he can do is e-mail me one liners like this: "Another three feet" or "Patrol barely bombs this place leaving freshies for the skiers - imagine that!" I'd with option 2

Taos is a great place and is getting the feedbag of pow stapped on her face right now. And you're within striking distance of the San Juans and Crusty Butt as the sagacious citron garcon detailed.

Then again, the PNW has a great base, but in WA at least, the freezing level is supposed to go up a bit before the next storm:

Also, keep that jaundiced eye on this which has been accurate for the 4-5 day forecasts: http://www.nwac.noaa.gov/products/SABNW .

From what this says, W/BC may get the next blast instead of WA.

If you decide on this, I will drive that way Sunday - ski monday. I needed an excuse! Will try to drag Mr Man along too.

By next Saturday, you mean in a week, right? Not like tomorrow? Can't do it this week.

Yes, we'll fly next Saturday. Can get flights to Albuquerque (relatively dear) or Denver (relatively cheap).

I will be the big guy stalking around the long term parking with a slim jim, a crow bar and a laptop.

Fly to Calgary then ski Banff/Lake Louise + Kicking Horse

Lots of mags to meet and Doug_W can probably put you up at his plush trailer near Golden and give you the tour of KH.

And you guys would be the first Brits to ever come this way.
