Arrived in SLC late Sunday night for 3 weeks. Forecast is depressing and it is as cold as I have ever seen it out west...
Monday 15th - Solitude
Empty as usual, decent snow, but lack of base depth make off piste a challenge. There is still some goodness in Honeycomb, but 20-30 minutes to get it... 27,000 vert.
Tuesday 16th - Alta
Thanks to Yetiman for the ride in the AM. We were the first in East Castle and it was pretty nice to do some untracked at Alta. Good snow at Alta, but the HighT is a real bitch with the lack of coverage. 29,000 vert.
Nice sequence of Yeti getting the goods in East Castle:
Paedde got in late Tuesday night, so on Wednesday morning, we decided to head North and do Pebble Creek. I liked the place a lot, very nice 25-35' pitch for 2000' vert and unlimited OB potential. The top chair was broken, so we decided to hike the last 700' vert to check the place out. This is an excellent stop between SLC and Jackson. 11,000 vert total.
Paedde on the final strech to the top:
Which yielded a dozen powder turns a week after the last storm...
Drove to Boise in the evening and skied Tamarack today. The place was completely empty - no more than 100 skiers on 1500 acres. Great tree skiing and fantastic base. No rocks here... Mountain is kinda flat, but has cool backcountry potential on both ends. Untracked snow everywhere a week after a storm. Unfortunately, there is a crust 2-6" below the snow. Similar to Targhee for terrain. 45$ was a great deal here for 3 high speed quads and your own private mountain.
Paedde will take over the TR duties for now, I hope he brings low pressure somewhere. Brundage tomorrow and then Whistler or Seattle starting Sunday. Thread here: http://tetongravity.com/forums/showthread.php?t=74038
