How Long Does it Usually Take to Mount Skis

Well I just picked up a pair of super stiff Bros and some Naxos, I brought them to a shop in SLC on Tuesday and was told they would be mounted by Thursday night at 6, the shop closes at 7. So today I stop by the shop and ask if they will be done so that my girlfriend can pick them up (I have class from 6-8) the shop tech says they will be done and he will give me a call so my gf can go get them. I don't recieve any call by 5:30 so I give him a call, he says that the Bros are too wide for their Naxo jig. Wouldn't they have a jig that goes over 99mm, and if not, wouldn't they tell me this was going to be a problem up front? It just doesn't seem to make sense, I understand shops get busy and things don't go as planned but if I knew it was going to take this long I would have gone to another shop. I am pretty anxious to ski them so that is part of the problem as well....

white pine touring in park city, they mounted my naxos on my bros, dropped them off in the morning, went skiing, picked them up on the way home. cost like 30 bucks.
Three fundamentals of every extreme skier, total disregard for personal saftey, amphetamines, and lots and lots of malt liquor......-jack handy

If you have the paper template that comes with them just do it yourself. Naxos are some of the easiest bindings I've ever mounted (I am definitely not a ski tech). Took less than an hour and two beers.

Knowing what it takes to mount skis, I would recommend leaving it to the pro's. If they mess up, they buy you some new skis. If you mess up, your out a pair of skis. Naxo bindings aren't the most common bindings out there, I know most shops around here didn't have a jig for them until this year. I would just call around and find someone who does. It shouldn't take them more that 15 min. to do it as long as they aren't backed up.

I mounted my NX21 before X'mas in about 1 1/2 hr. I have mounted four pairs of skis before that one. The first pair took about 3 hours. I used a 2 X 4 to test my drillling skill for the first pair.

For every ski mounting, I measure three times (just to make damn sure) and drill one time.

Take a look at Lou Dawson website for a step by step illustration what to do. It is an excellent guide, but it is not up to date with NX21. However, the basic steps are the same.

The written instructions that come with NX21 box are totally incomprensible. But you can look at the diagrams which show you what you should be doing. That helps a bit.

I have railed my mounted NX21 for about 14 days now, both down groomers and in bc, and the skis haven't flown off my boots yet, so far.

yeah, i'll take them off your hands...how's $100 sounds?

It did help to have a proper bench, and the right bit is mandatory. but seriously, I'd estimate that 99% of mount fuck-ups are due to carelessness, not it being open-heart surgery. (The other 1% consists of not having the volant bit on a volant ski, and getting pissed off and throwing the ski against the wall.)

    Must be an old jig?
The Naxo jig I have goes from 59mm (hah!) all the way out to 125mm if the rubber blocks are removed. (I also have Diamir & Dynafit jigs if anyone in the vicinity is in need . . . as if we'll ever have any snow out here for backcountry skiing this season.)
