    Regrets, your old rides

Over the years I have listened to the old timers whine over the sleds the used to pimp and then eventually got rid of . I'll be the first to admit a killer ride does grow on you, the memories, or horsepower, or chicks in the back. Anybody got any cool picts and or stories about the one that got away? ( I kept all my rides over the years and picked up a few extras as well)

you're awful impatient, waiting only 3 hours for such a response though it does seem there aren't many old car enthusiasts around these parts. I hang out on a couple other websites to get my old car fix.

I still have the first car I ever bought so can't say I regret getting rid of it. It was my dad's and he bought it new, sold it to me when I was a senior in HS. Got laid for the first time in the back seat, good thing we were both 17 as there isn't much room back there. py pic, but it's all I have scanned right now.

This car was my daily driver for about 6 years up until about '02. Literally a little old lady's car. When I bought it the paint was faded and it had a few dents, the interior was trashed and the engine was worn out. By the time I sold it I'd fixed the body and repainted it, swapped in a nice black interior (original was light blue) with '96 Integra seats, rebuilt and hopped up the engine, rebuilt the transmission, swapped in a posi rearend with steeper gears, and completely rebuilt the suspension with all high performance parts. It was reasonably quick, got decent mileage, handled like a slot car, looked good, and being a hatchback with a fold down rear seat you could sleep back there, carry a mountain bike, skis, furniture, etc. I kinda miss this car.

I had a '73 Ford Bronco with the 2" lift and dual shock conversion, Soft doors/top, 3 on the floor, and some luxe small brand Audiophile CD player/stereo that I scored from my neighbor before leaving DC.

2 years after moving to Happy Valley I sold that truck in 1992 for $500, which I used for deposit on our Apartment in the Mushroom House in Vail. Sold it to some kid in Leadville - and robbed him blind. The only thing on that truck that DIDN'T need replacing/upgrading was the transfer case shifter which had a bitchin' hollowed out WW2 handgrenade on it.... well, maybe the chrome rims were OK as well... Transfercase? Shot. As was the clutch, the power steering pump, the brake master cylinder, the tires were bald, the shocks... bouncy. The engine? The ol' 302 made this noise. it was not a good noise. It also went through a quart of oil every 2 days. Oh yeah - the glass pack mufflers had fallen off somewhere N. of Statebridge as well.

I saw the truck 2 years ago when I went back for a Boy's Weekend (and met Brett.) Thing was pimped out and probably worth well over $15k. I wonder how much the guy stuck into it.

1st car in 1974: 1959 VW Beetle. 36 rippin' horsepower. Took me to Alpental many times - in 3rd gear all the way up the pass. No gas gauge. Back seat folded down for convenient sleeping bag placement when the high school parties got too crazed to drive home. This was fairly often.

    skip a few

1973 Volvo 142 S. College ride with sway bars on both ends. Cornered like a go-cart.

1963 Chevy stepside pickup. Simultaneous college ride. 230 engine with three on the tree. Gunrack. Ellensburg, WA.

    skip a few

1978 Fiat Spider. Top down in the middle of winter. Always unless raining.

1959 ford F250. 4x4 with PTO winch. (sigh)

My first ride was a 1987 Subaru GL-10 Turbo 4WD Wagon with a sunroof. I boinked my high school girl friend for the first time in the back, seats down. Yes, I lost my cherry (and hers) in it. I miss that damn car.

I miss each of the 3 Renault 16s I've had. Front wheel drive, big, comfortable, good in snow, pretty good gas mileage. My wife would kill if I found another one.
In drove this drunken madman and stopped on a dime! Unfortunately the dime was in Mr. Rococo's pocket!

Had a 64 Nova with a small block in it. I wish I still had it.

Thanks for the comments dk_alaskan & 4matic. Guess I could've identified the year & model... The Pontiac is a '72 Formula 400 Firebird. One of only 2550 built that year. It sits in my garage under a tarp awaiting the day my income matches my ambition. Just needs an engine and a repaint. The Ventura from '71 - '79 was basically a Nova with a different grille on the front. Prior to that a Ventura was a full-size car (land yacht), like a Catalina or Bonneville.

    The Nova was a '75.

Fiddler - now I know where Chevy got their styling idea for the Chevette. I've never seen one of those Renaults before. Judging from the appearance, I'm going to guess mid '60s to early '70s???

I will add my "I miss" story.

I miss my jet black '90 Ramcharger. It has one of the most dependable V-8's--the dog 318, 4 speed auto 4x. I have owned Bessy since 93, she is the first truck i owned. I got her with 32,000 on the odometer, i think she has around 150k now. I miss her because she is back home in storage up on jack stands because she would have shit the bed on the drive down the Alcan on my way to school here in WA. I have a tear in the eye thinking of all the good times in her....TOTALY bald Super Diggers engulfed in mud over the tires, threw her in 4 lo and slowly crawled my way out of the mud with Dodges great 4 lo, there was the times outrunning a certain body of law, the skiing and fishing roadtrips, the dates, the hockey games.....DAMN, I can't wait to get her back in my hands again so i can fix her up....

    No regrets:

This is my old ride from high school:

and this is the beauty I spent 5 years looking for:

See any similarities? I guess I know what I like. Major difference between old and new, besides the obvious:

    Old:'83
    V6
Looked like it had been parked at the bottom of the ocean(CT road salt)
    Ugly ass brown

    New:'79
    V8
    Virtually rust free
    My favorite ugly ass brown

Chainsaw, mine were all like the two pictured, 1971-72. They first came out in 1964. The engine was mounted backwards with the tranny in front, hence the long hood. The car was much bigger than a Chevette. I took the back seat out one time and fit 6 people, 8 instruments, packs and sleeping bags in it and drove from Seattle to a music festival in Oregon. Got about 26mpg. With studded snows it would go anywhere.
I also had two Renault R8s and an R10 which were rear engine with transaxle, an R12 wagon and an R5 (LeCar). Roo would probably want me to get psychiatric help for owning all those Renaults but I loved them. Of course before I went French I owned 2 1959 Austin A-40 Farinas (first car), a 1959 Austin Cambrian and a Hillman Minx.R12
    R8
R8s and 10s have been used as serious rally cars. Thats not me in the pic, really, it's not.

Did you check under the seats? Stuff always seems to end up there.

I love those trucks. I built one on the cheap and made some money off of it. My other two won't get sold though, or they would end up in this thread about regrets for sure.
