    So... EC conditions?

All you mags who claimed to be hitting shit up this weekend... how is it? Im heading up tomorrow (first fuggin day this season), trying to decide where. Kmart is stuck in my head, but Im open to wherever. Is it worth the seventy-friggin bux?!? The tried and true Rivah is also a possibility...

Just got back from training @ Mt Saint Anne, and it is sick up there!! When you guys were getting rained on last monday and tuesday, we were getting dumped on

Other than that though, it looks pretty grim everywhere else. I had 2 races the last 2 days at Cranmore, and the conditions were piss poor. The only real strip of snow on the mountain was the race trail, and even that was barely covered....

Hit Kmart yesterday. Most of the mountain was fast and firm. The best snow was found on the Bear side, Skye Burst to Viper with the visibility there being 80 times better. It's skiing regardless. Some guy was selling $50.00 vouchers in the parking lot. Look for these guys.
Early today it rained but changed to snow and now the temps are getting cold for snow making. Do it.

We got really warm last night with a few showers, then the temp dropped like mad this morning. Currently about 15 degrees in Waitsfield. So yeah, pretty fast n' furious out there right now. Tuesday will be money if all the wx heads are right.

Thanks for the informative post. Stowe isnt overpriced???
Looks to me that Stowe is more expensive than Kmart, and it has less open terrain--albeit probably better terrain (although the goods probably arent even open)... NIX

No doubt Stowe is extremely overpriced. Better conditions for the price was my call based on area friends and current condition reports. It is all going to be mostly man made hard pack groomers....take your pick.

What happened at Jay on Friday night? Cannon got heavy rain and washed away the weeks accumulation and more. Very, very, grim.

    just got back from K
yep, there's a good bit of ice, but there was a lot of deep spring snow in the areas that received wind-deposited snow last week
it was snowing when i left, and they'd started blowing on SS and cascade around 3pm.
upper downdraft, on the other hand was bulletproof by the end of the day.
i haven't seen stowe's latest report, but when i last checked the front four and their ilk were still closed.
K, on the other hand has much of it's steepest terrain open.
if they get some snow tonite, tomorrow could be pretty good.

my money's on tuesday though, so i'm taking the day off

Damn I think Cannon is closed temporarily..... light rain/mix up at Jay so I heard followed by a couple of nights of 3+ inches and a good 6+ midweek. Not great but as usual the best to be had

In K1 lot @ 9:15 fri. some guy was walking the lot asking people, as they got out of their car, if they had tickets and then offering up his vouchers. I didn't see "guys" doing this...I just assume this will be happening more this weekend.

Word from the wise (or maybe stupid?)...I did one run at Kmart at 3:00 pm today and it sucked ass. Was my last run. Slush on crust. Never really skiied that before. 2 people I know got injured today (one looks like he maybe blew mcl or acl...condolences Skidork ). Sucky variable conditions out there.

Save your $$ tomorrow...go up on Mon. or Tues or wait until next weekend, JMHO.

Bargain that $50 down. He/She got it for free. Well, not really free, but slaving for the ASC man, I suppose.

Sounds like MLK weekend will be a joy in Vermont.

don't you guys ever take pictures? I mean, sure it's not stoke but at least we west coasters who've never skied EC would know what it looks like. Just a thought.

I've taken shots and posted them sometimes, as have others, but usually I only bother when it's good--which over the past two seasons has meant one day of photos.

I have often thought of taking shots of the usual grimness just to show what it's like, but haven't gotten around to it.

edit: for the better answer to the question:

that's what it looked like when I was skiing last week. Embarassing enough not to take pics? It's from the 'Wost conditions ever in S. VT' thread I started, I think there are a few other horrible shots in there.

Insert photo of my bare a**. That is about the crux of it and therefore no pictures.

I used to sell those vouchers when they were $35. Yeah, the kid in the parking lot probably did get them for free. But he is probably a broke ass student trying to earn his season pass. I never sold them for more than $5 which meant that people were always saving at least 15-20 bucks off their day pass. Always seemed like a fair deal...

    Sounds like a real hoot.

Like I said in another thread, find a ski area out west that charges $40 for tickets and put the money you'd save by not paying $70-$80 for tickets back east towards airfare/lodging. Seems like a no-brainer to me.
