Participants must have a transceiver, shovel and a method of traveling in the backcountry (skins, snowshoes). Transceivers are available for rent: $10 for two days. Students should be in reasonable condition for winter backcountry travel.

As usually happens it's timed so that I can't make it. How many times will the University do this, schedule so that it's convenient for students but not for anyone who actually does something in his or her daily routine?

It wouldn't be so bad if they didn't make the number of classes so small and announce the times so damned close to when they actually occur. With some decent advance warning to members of the non-University citizenry, I might be able to make one of them some time.

It's damned good of Steve Karkanen to give his time for this, though, and I commend him for that.

PS: How'd you sign up a month ago? Last time I checked the Msla Avy site -- about a week ago -- the only classes listed were the December 2006 ones.
