how about the new octo-core action that got released today?
and on an unrelated note, apple and RED are supposed to have booths right next to each other at NAB. on the 12th shit is going to blow UP.
"...And my quarter is ruined. My business lost about 200K in revenue.
On a positive note, I did save some money on car insurance by staying with GEICO..."
Fanboys...
Sure, Apple i-everythings work well, but not worth the amount of money. $600 for a phone WITH a new contract? That thing better have a spot to plug your dick into for that price. Also, the accesory craze is over the top. I bought a $30 RCA Lyra, and a 2Gb SD card for $40, and a I have the same song capacity as a $300 Ipod, but I don't have that cool image I guess.
I'll take my free phone, and then get a laptop for the price of the I-phone and be able to do even more.
And lets not even venture into the territory of the battery, or the deat of the unit right after the warranty expires, like so many Ipods do.
You're horribly misinformed.
The 30 GB iPod is $249 while the 80 GB model is $349. The largest Lyra is only 30 GB. Price? $399.
The iPod Nano is $149/2GB $199/4GB $249 8GB. The iPod Shuffle is 1GB $79. The largest capacity Lyra I could find with an SD slot holds 1/2 GB out of the box. It's more like $70. But maybe you found a smaller capacity model and hence it's cheaper. But the shuffle is tiny compared to the Lyras with SD slots. Probably 1/2 to 1/3 the size. The Nanos are bit more spendy admittedly, but then again they come with a full color screen that does quite a bit more than just text.
Now on to the iPhone. The 4 GB model will start at $499 and the 8GB will come in at $599. This is for a full featured phone that rivals the top end Blackberries and Treos. As most everyone knows, when new cell phones are released they sell at a huge premium. The 1st gen Motorola Razr was selling for as much if not more than the iPhone when it first came out. The 1st gen Razr doesn't do 1/10th of what the iPhone can do; and what it does do, it can't do as well. The iPhone's price will come down like all other new cellphones. The early pricing is just for suckers. This is the way that industry works, it's as simple as that.
And finally the battery issues. They were fixed with the 4th gen iPods. I know since I have one that I use every day and it's still going like it's brand new. If you don't trust me, do some additional reading. The problems only exist with gens 1-3; and Apple is taking care of some of those people. What's especially interesting is the industrywide battery problems. Just look at the Sony recall. Dell, Lenovo, Toshiba, Sony, Fujitsu, and Apple all had to recall their laptop batteries recently. We're talking millions upon millions of units. And with that recall in mind, iPod owners can look on the bright side also; their batteries won't explode.

The only thing worse than the feeling that you are going to die is the realization that you probably won't.
the ipod wasn't top-of-the-line when it came out either. i distinctly remember geek sites labeling it "lame"with the marketing dept. doing a good job it became an icon. i also have one: a first-gen shuffle (i bought it because i could access it from linux, and it was cheap) which still gives me 10 hours worth of battery time so i can forget it turned on in the car when i go skiing.
the iPhone may follow a similar path. make it good enough for the common person and they'll buy it. especially provided that some people think that its manufacturing+components price is ~$250. at $250 i'll buy one just to browse the web as i find the interface rather thrilling (don't care much for cell phones) ...
let them duke it out with the blackberry, i'll be picking up the scraps of that battle![]()
Refurb'd. 512mb RCA Lyra - $24
2Gb SD Card - $25
4-Pack Rechargable AAA batteries (32 hrs) - $15
Having 2.5Gb of music for more than half the price of a 2Gb Ipod... Priceless.
Looks like I struck a nerve with an Ipod lover.
I guess I just don't understand the whole advanced cellphone rage either, since they don't do anything all that particularily well. My friend had a Treo, and now has a Sidekick. The novelty wears off quickly. Maybe it's because I only use my phone for a phone, and to occasionally check a sports score, or the weather radar.
Yeah, you struck my anti-moron nerve.
Refurb'd. Oh sweet! A refurb'd 2GB Nano is only $119...with free shipping..a full size color screen...a better control interface...a form factor slimmer than AAA batteries...a full one-year warranty (I mean why was the unit refurb'd in the first place)...compatibility with the largest online music store which is now selling high bitrate, DRM free, industry standard AAC files (which most digital players can play except the Lyra)...should I keep going...

I agree the phone is an incredible piece of hardware and that I think it both appropriately priced and that we won't see the price come down. Apple has traditionally kept price points, but upgraded the devices.
As far as batteries, my 4th gen ipods battery is completely gone after 3 years. Completely gone as in won't charge and cannot make it past a boot before dying.
but can an RCA save lives?
