    Boot Help, Krypton Pros

Just got some Krypton Pros, and my feet seem to be falling asleep. They aren't painful, and there are no wierd pressure points that I can feel, in fact the fit seems incredibly good, especially for a new boot.

I had them heat molded a couple days ago, and had my first day skiing in them yesterday. With unbuckling them on the lifts, they were tolerable, and I could actually ignore the bit of numbness when sking, but fuck my feet were getting cold.

I'm sitting here with my feet in them, but with them completly unbuckled, and the power straps undone, and I can still feel the soles of my feet falling asleep.

Anyone else have similar problems, or maybe some solutions? Might this just go away as the boots break in? I don't really want to wait to find out.

Yea, thats would think if someone told me the same stuff, but I'm wearing super thin ski socks, and I tell you, the fit is money. I'm actually worried about them being a bit big once they pack out.

sometimes the clamping motion of the tongue on flexon type boots will cut of the circulation and deaden the nerves over the top of foot causing the numbness you describe, in the old days we would do a lot of work on the tonhue and instep to stop this (heating and flattening the tongue or even cutting channels in the foam)....

So I'm guessing time has not illuminated any easy fixes for this?

I guess I could just take em to a bootfitter.

time did, they disappeared, but athletes that skied for ski companies without boot hookups couldn't be bothered to buy boots so dalbello solved all their problems and came up with the Krypton and now regular people are buying them and discovering these tiny issues again, no biggy....

does it happen when you try the boot on with out any footbed?

if yes then you need a bit more instep height

if no then the width or a nerve pinch in the ankle area?

mntlion, not to change the subject, but with my custom insoles in my boots, the outside of my foot goes numb, and the arch of my foot is in some serious pain. i have tried to grind down some of the cork on the insole, grind it smaller to fit the liner better, and nothing works. could this be a canting issue?

Yes, it does. Although I do have an orthotic, and the problem seemed to be worse with the extra little insert that fits into the bootboard to give a little more arch support.

By instep height, do you mean that I might need more support under my instep, or more room above it? The room above it part seems to make sense.

I've considered grinding down the bottom of my orthotics so there will be room for the little inserts underneath them, but I'm kinda hesitant to start hacking them up.

I believe a bootfitter would grind down the boot board not your orthotic.

does you foot go numb, in the boot, without the customs, (with a stock footbed?)

if so it is the shell,

dont think it will be upper cuff alingment. but try it and see.

PM if you have questions or start a thread?

    quick question for Dalbello people.

Is the boot sole length for a Krypton Cross the same for a Krypton Pro in a comparable size? i.e. A 26.5 Cross has a sole length of 306mm...so is a Pro a 306 as well?

And if I got a Cross, but don't like the flex, could I upgrade to a Pro for a stiffer flex and still get the same fit as the Cross? (hypothetically speaking of course )

    hey ty.
The rampage, cross and pro all have the exact same shell, despite what some shop kids might tell ya. it is a 98mm last in the forefoot.
-Rampage- Soft tongue, furry liner, inverted bottom buckle, spongy boot board
-Cross- choice of two liners, one wrap style, one traditional, heat moulding in both. Soft tongue, choice of boot boards
-Pro- Gold traditional style liner, gold intuition wrap liner (nice if you need to take up some volume) choice of tongues, comes with the stiff one, choice of boot boards, comes with the stiff one in.

So, if you already had cross, and wanted to make them into a "pro" flex, all you would have to do is swap the tongue over which takes about a minute. Then, you will want to add one of the stiffening shims in the lowest position, as this does not lock the cuff but stiffens things up nicely. I drive nordica raceroom skis with a stiff tongue pro and the shim in the lowest position. with the stiff tongue and shim in the top position, the boot is race boot stiff.

so, aside from the rant cause I'm bored in class, don't get a krypton based on flex since that is easily modified. Get one based on your liner preference, as that is the real change between them. THe shell is the exact same in terms of fit and length between models.

so, if I were to do it again, I would get a set of SAC cross for cheapo and throw either the gold ID intution liner or a traditional thermoflex liner in there and go for it (I have both available if you need them) and get a tongue for oh, 10 bones from someone on the board. You could also try the stiffening shims with the soft tongue on the upper (stiffest) setting. This comes out to a 95 or so on the solly scale, as they feel just like my pro models did when out in the cold.
HTH, let me know if you need anything.
