After hitting the obvious yesterday, it took some thought and a phone call to Trackhead (thanks TH) to come up with an area we were excited about, considering the overcast skies and ripping winds forecasted for today. The winds did indeed pick up steadily throughout the day. We got another sort of late start, so missed out on hitting the exposed terrain - it was already blowing up there pretty hard by the time we were near it. Luckily there was sheltered terrain available too, and it delivered nicely.
Like everyone else that was out today will say - it's nuking up on the exposed terrain. The wind noise was a constant companion today, sounded like a jet plane in the distance. Wind slab city tomorrow for sure. The snowpack underneath the fresh was pretty rotten on N and E aspects and very rotten on W aspects, a crust layer of varying thickness on top of weaker layers. Not enough weight on top yet to cause trouble though, that'll change soon probably.
No tele trickery with the photos today, AT gear only. Todd says hi.
The rest of that run - very nice.
Some more pow dancing on one of several great runs today.
