    Cool Wasatch 1-5-07

Great day today, we got 6 or so runs, and they were all excellent. 8" or so of fresh, although it seemed like more in places. The new snow is of the fluffy variety, and no slab activity was observed. Sluffs running on steeper slopes however. If the winds pick up, this blower will definitely get transported.

We got a slightly late start, and followed the crowd up from the church, so Day's had seen some traffic by the time we got there.

    Beautiful morning

Luckily, we were inspired to travel a little further, and we found some solitude, and some better looking snow.

Adam finding a pretty deep 8 inches.

Hell of a way to start the day.

We lost the light after that, but a full day was had, with a lot of really nice runs.

No, I should do that more just for my information, but we haven't even gotten a big enough dump on top of our poor snowpack lately to make me dig one out of concern. We did a lot of pole probing, and all aspects seemed more solid/firm than I would have expected. I think all of the N facing stuff we were on had seen some skier traffic and wind though, so that might have had something to do with it. I observed a lot more rotten snow in the pink pine area yesterday. You know it's rotten when you can't even dig a cat hole to take a dump in...

Dug a full pit skiers right of Jaws on a 30 degree N Ne slope. Don't have Wow like interweb skills to post a graph but, observstions were ~ 5' snow depth
Ground facets not to damp and rounding out. Much lower Temp gradiant than previous weeks simliar aspect Silver Fork pits. Shovel compression quite strong and shear tests failing at ground level, although rueschblock failed after full jumping on a layer 1/2 way down, between Nov and Dec. storm cycles
No real instabilities aside from minor wind slab cornices. Definately sluffy on steeper aspects.
A shot of my partner Toph enjoying a healthy 8" in Sliver Fork on our way over to a well tracked Days

And the peek back to check on sluffage shot

Would post more stoke but some theiving asshat swiped my partners camera from outside the shop. Hope to maybe see some maggots out and about tomarrow.

Amazing how much deeper 8" of fluffy blower is than a lot of the heavier snow we've had this year in CO. Had similar experiences today.

Strong, strong work, gramps! Nice TR!
