    Favorite wines

Conducting a little market survey, whats hot in the wine market in your neighborhood? Your personal fave? Reds and Whites. Your input would be very helpfull.

In the Tetons Pinot Noir is real hot right now. The Coppola is going off the shelves pretty quick as is J. Elk Cove does real well around here too.

Willakenzie Estate 2003 is a pretty good Pinot for the price and is selling nicely.
My personal fav is Brogan Cellars.

Silverado sells good in all kinds of wine and Chateau Montellena (sp?) does well too.

Not a white fan. My rule for buying reds is to go Italian (i am far from a kind of a sewer (figure that one out!)).

    Red - Chianti or Syrah
    White - Sauvignon Blanc

Off the top of my head pics that you could find at a decent price at a good liquor store would be Montevina '02 Syrah (about $16) and '02 Bennett-Lane Maximus - $35, (which is like a 45/35/20 cab/merlot/shiraz blend.) VERY tasty. I've noticed The Cakebread shit as well as Hess Select wines both have been moving very fast around here, though I haven't had either since the '97 batch of Hess Chardonnay, which is long gone, and was very drinkable last year. Unfortunately they only came in the standard 12 bottle cases.

Petit Verdot is one of the five varities, along with cabernet sauvignon, cabernet franc, merlot and malbec, traditionally used in Bourdeaux blends. While the other four are made as varietals, I've never seen a varietal petit verdot.

I was in the box-wine/Paizano camp until my recent trip home for Christmas. My mom has been reminding the old man that the old reds in the basement are gonna fizzle if he doesn't start drinking them. We drank a shload of 20+ year old wines. Over the course of less than 2 weeks, I've become a spoiled brat. I've been having explicit dreams about early 80s Bordeauxs.
Remind me. We'll send him a red cap and a Speedo.

Only white I drink = Domaine Rothschild Bordeaux Blanc.

    As for reds...

France| pretty much anything from Medoc and Pauillac
Italy| Amarone/Barolo/Brunello/Barbaresco for spoiling myself (1997/1998 of course); Cab-Souv/Nebbiolo/Dolcetto for types of grapes; regions being Piedmonte, Tuscany, and Sicily; can't pick a true favorite since I tend not to get the same bottle twice

Spain, Chile, and Argentina also have great reds that you can get for less than $10. One of my favorites from Chile is Vino de Eyzaguirre 1999 San Francisco de Mostaxal Colchagua Valley Cabernet Sauvignon.

Anything Siraz/Syrah I can't stand. I avoid it like the plague.

My favorite Australian wine is Chateau Wagga-Wagga. It has a bouquet like an aboriginie's armpit.

    Second for Pirramimma petit verdot.
Rancho Zabaco makes a great red zinfandel and I've also had luck with J. Lohr's Seven Oaks Cab.

I'd also recommend D'arenberg's '04 "Stump Jump," which is a Grenache/ Mourvédre/Syrah - basically the Australian version of a French Cotes du Rhone. Flavorful & light with nice cherry/raspberry hints. Cost ranges from $9-13 and drinks like a fifty dollar Cotes. Spectator - 85, Advocate - 87. Probably the best value out there for a "drink now."
