Gotama and Line Prophet 100 Base Problems

Has anyone else had the pleasure of inflicting base damage (core shots, etc) to the New Gotama or Prophet 100 yet? I was speaking with a friend of mine that works for Nordica, and he was telling me that the Volkl and Line skis made in K2's factory have thinner bases then they have in the past.

I am curious because I had the 05-06 Prophet and didn't get a single core shot all year, but I already have two GOOD dingers on my new 06-07 Prophets. I have been very careful, and the same type of brush and/or logs I rode over last year that did nothing to my bases have wreaked havoc on my new ones.

This could be a stroke of bad luck, but after hearing my buddy from Nordica tell me this, I am wondering if there is any truth to it? Or, is it him messing with me trying to get me to ski on Blowers...haha?

If anyone else has had this problem, and has noticed a difference in these two skis durability between last year and this year, let me know...

kind of irks me if there is truth to this....

    thanks!

I've run over loads of tree parts and organic crap in the past three days on my new Prophet 100s with no noticable damage. As for rock-based damage, I think it's more a matter of luck (what kind of rock, how much weight you have on the ski when you ran over it, etc.) than base-quality. Anyhow, part of the reason I got the Prophs was because I read that Line uses a thicker base and edges because of their proclivity to be used in the park.

The current year's Gotamas have paper thin bases. I have a buddy who rides on them and he ripped a huge portion out and I coudn't believe how thin they were.

All I know is I have a small, yet disappointing, base damage on my new Superblowers I skied on once. I don't remember hitting anything that made me think I might have anything more than a superficial scratch, but I somehow mangled the ptex along one edge underfoot, hard to tell if it's to the core, but I'll probably have to fix it just in case. Tell your buddy at Nordica that.

I have a pair of the new Gots and have 10-12 days on them with some minor scrapes on the bases but nothing major. The top sheets on the other hand have some nice gouges taken out of them.

Well, I was just comparing to my Prophet 100's from last season...

guess it is my bad luck, and my 200lb ass running over things...

I still love the skis, but thought I would throw it out there based on the rumors I heard....

oh well, ski em till they blow up!

I have last years gots and have hit tons of stuff without much damage. My brother has this years and has already had a sidewall/delam issue and a major core shot. I don't know if its luck or the ski.

I had a small core shot on my Gots and it does seem that the bases are a little thin. I've taken similar depth hits to my Iggies and even 8800's with no core shot. My friend has this years Gots and took a 3in long hit. Base seemed thin on his boards as well but what he hit and how fast he hit it I'd say it would have done damage to any board.

my brothers 04'-05's, Volkl's last year with visable wood sidewall, just delaminated under the rear binding after only 20 days. (He rode his G4's on rock and groomer days.) Perfect ptex, barley a scratch. Just under the binding the wood seperated and buckled the top sheets steel rail, botom rail still perfect. He sent them back to Volkl but they are out of warranty obviously.

Obviously a design defect. Perhaps some epoxy will seal it up again...?

I'll let you know what Volkl says, pretty bullshit for such a high end ski.

I have the 05'-06' with the covered side wall and see no damage on mine thank god!!

I did destroy a pair of 04'-05' Pocket Rockets in Utah this Jan. Blew the rail under the binging too, but I snagged a rock, didn't smash it but snagged a rock and it pulled my rail off. That sucked...seemed pretty weak!

    Anyone else have these issues?

    Skiing without snow sucks!!!!!

Beat up my new Prophet 100s in Mineral Basin in January. Didn't have any terrible core shots when I probably should have. No problems to date.

Both pair of my Line's have had numerous abuses with no scars at all. Only some minor edge ruffage, which the gummy stone took care of.

Compared to my Fischer and Rossi skis , the Lines have thicker edges and I would imagine a pretty tough base.

Couldn't be more pleased with the tough ness and the way they ski.

My Motherships have taken a fucking a beating! They will continue to too. But I just started riding on some 100's and have hit some small stuff (pow is so fucking deep ), nothing showing yet. Can't wait for the 100's to follow in the brave footsteps of those poor Motherships.

After a little over 20 days on my Prophet 100s and lots of rock surfing, my Prophets are still in great condition. They've got two tiny core shots at the waist and a number of scrapes. One of the core shots runs at a 45 degree angle into the edge, but the edge is perfectly fine. Part of the reason I got these skis was because they were supposed to have double-thick edges and bases. So far, they've served me well.

Oh, the topsheets also look great, which is surprising because I did a lot of park in AK's powderless February.

yeah, the edges have always worked out for me...I wasn't saying that. I was just wondering about the bases, but since I got those two early season core-shots, they have been great. Best skis ever...

I guess I will just chalk those two core shots up to the fact that I weigh 200 lbs stark naked, and when I hit things, the skis are gonna take the brunt of it!
