    Mac Photo Editing software?

I'm looking for a mac photo editing/drawing software that is free, preferably.

I've taken a bunch of photos and want to add measurements/lines designating where things are going to be when I remake whats in the picture. I'm not looking for anything fancy, just a program that I can add numbers, lines, colored boxes, curved lines to an jpg/bit photo.

Recommendations? Is there something that already comes with the mac that lets me do this? I'm pretty clueless when it comes to this stuff.

GIMP is a free open source PhotoShop like program. Works on mac and PC.

and it's learning curve is uber steep (gimp).

I can't believe that the fruit doesn't give you a program for free that allows you to do that given how much more artsy fartsy they are than PeeCees...

Maybe Inkscape? It's actually a pretty good open source Illustrator. It requires that you have X11 installed though, which is easy enough to install from the CD that came with your Mac or as a download from Apple.

I'll give GIMP a try. Unfortunately aperture needs 1 gig of RAM, and I only have 512.

Inkscape is perfect for that. You can import a bitmap (jpg, png, gif, whatever) in and size it, then make all sorts of vector boxes or lines or text on top of it. It will print nicely because it's vector/postcript output. Or you can export it to a bitmap.

GIMP is good, but it's more analogous to Photoshop, as Inkscape is to Illustrator.
