AT Skis - Looking for insight ...

... From people who've actually skied them
Im fairly confident ive read 90% of anything about the skis in question here, epic, ttips, and on the internet, so no need to just point me there or repeat the sources.

    basic bio
5'10 170, to be used 90%BC maybe a few days here and there inbounds, but I doubt much more than that. Fairly aggressive, dont huck or plan to huck anything over 5-10 ft. To be mounted with comforts which have been sitting in the corner for a month now, and to be skied in freeride aeros. I was planning on doing the 179 soft bro route, but we all know about the wait.

Out of all the skis Ive ridden, explosivs, mojo90/103, g41s, LPs, helidaddies, axioms, snowrangers, a ton of solly\rossi\k2 demo gear, my favorite so far has been the 186 LP, handsdown. Ideally it would be nice if that ski lost the twin'ish tail, sized down to 180, was a few spots softer on marshals scale, and lost 1 pound of weight per ski.

It would also be nice if I dont have to buy new skins as the ones I have were trimmed to 180 helidaddies, but fit the 186LP/Naxos perfect when I lengthened them a bit. For this reason, things like voile surfs, dynafit fr10s, and trab stelvios are not an option right now.

Like to keep this at or under 400, which I can do right now on pretty much any of these skis, so a dp wailer 95/105 is out of the question unless you know someone selling them for that price.

    Im interested in;
179 Karhu Jak BC 100 - too much sidecut? how is edgehold? (get them on firm yet rontele?)
183 Atomic Janak or equiv - dead feeling moreso than the HDs? hows egdehold?
180 BD Verdict - dead feeling like other atomics or whats the dealio?

not concerned with powder at all with these skis as they should do just fine.

    other(s) Im overlooking?

Possibles, but perhaps too wide or heavy
18X - Fischer Prophete, scott p4, gotama, or voile insane.

    Thoughts?
Anyone have any of these used they're willing to sell? (yes I know its not gearswap)

I hiked for two years on a pair of gotamas and I thought they were great all arounders. I'm not racing anyone uphill so I never felt like the wieght was an issue.....certainly lessened by dynafits. Haven't skied anything else on your list.

I do have a pair of 183s I'm considering selling. They'd be cheap.

What kind of conditions are you planning on skiing them cause the answer's different if you want a full on spring mountaineering ski or an all around winter/pow/spring ski.

You might look at some DBs. I picked up some Surreals early last season and put some TLTs on them. This is the co the Stephan Drake had before DP. The Surreals are very similar to Exsplosivs in the flex (I have the stiffer ones) and dimensions. They are hard to find but sometimes can be had for a deal. Mine are 193s and the combined weight of the setup is around 8 to 9 lbs on the bathroom scale. I think they came in a 178 or so too.

we're talking about the same ski right?
84mmish waist, sexy wood topsheet, light as a feather?

Gots would be good then, I really think for that kind of soft snow oriented a setup you're selling yourself short by trying to stay under 100mm. Unless you're doing day long deathmarches, it is just so much nicer to have a fatter ski.

well there seems to be a breakpoint around 100mm that allows you to get a lot of ski without sacraficing too much edge hold, increasing too much weight, still having a decent medium stiffness, having good powder performance, and being reasonable to skin on.

Id imagine there will be a hut trip here\there on them, and Id like to keep the weight somewhere around 4lbs max each in the hopes of getting in an extra lap\not being so tired at the top. Although, pretty much anything with dynafits will be better than the LP+Naxo skin up in terms of weight.

i have though about funkens doughboys but Im still concerned about the softer tip washing out if I need it on something harder.

You're forgetting 179 Bro... Should be all you need (but a tad more than 400 $).

    im not forgetting it
infact im slated to get a pair in the future for the design work I did for them.
They have commitments to their paying customers, so I have to wait a bit longer than I might be willing to wait for my dynafit setup.
