    Hit head on............

    Damn, I'm sore.
No broken bones or serious injuries, so I consider myself very lucky.

Yesterday, driving south on Hwy #9 from Frisco to Breckenridge I was hit head on by a northbound car driven by an 18 year old kid. He was okay and I'm okay, although they put me on a backboard and hauled me off in the ambulance after I complained of lower neck pain(whiplash). The roads were completely dry.

The kid just simply lost control of his car due to some sort of preoccupation, started fishtailing, careened off the guardrail and skidded out of control across the yellow line and into my lane. I tried to get over in my lane as far as I could, but had no where to go.

The front passenger side of his Chevy Malibu slammed into the front driver side of my Isuzu Rodeo. Glass went everwhere, airbags deployed and smoke filled the car. "Holy shit, I think I'm alright", I thought to myself. Still dazed and not knowing where the smoke was coming from, I kicked my door open and got out of the vehicle as quickly as possible. I looked at my truck and it wasn't on fire.

Seeing that the other driver was okay and standing next to his totalled car, I exclaim: "What the fuck were you doing?!"
"Um, I think I hit some ice", he replies.
"Ice?!!" I looked back at the completely dry roads.

By now, lots of people had stopped to help and were calling 911. My friend Dave who happened to be driving by, noticed my demolished vehicle and stopped to help. I knew I wasn't hurt seriously, but the pain in my lower neck was growing by the minute. I got an ambulance ride to the hospital for x-rays and a CAT scan as a precautionary measure.

My truck is totalled and while I'm really sore, I wasn't seriously injured. I'm really thankful that I was by myself and didn't have my wife and 21 month old daughter in the vehicle. It was very traumatic and I'm not sure how my wife would've handled it.

I was traveling at 45mph and the cop estimated that the kid's car was traveling between 35 and 45 by the time we made contact.

No turns for me for a few days, until I can shake the soreness in my neck. Thank God for seatbelts and airbags.

I always have that fear of some yahoo not paying attention/drunk/falling asleep careening into my lane, or coming around a corner and having a moose join me in the front seat. Shitty way to start the year. Thankfully you're going to be okay! Was the smoke from the airbag charge deploying?

Glad you're OK. Always take the ambulance ride after an accident like this. You never know what kind of injuries you might have and if you need to get insurance $$ from the other driver it is a lot easier if you take the ambulance ride. Plus you don't have to sit on the side of the road all day.

Holy fuck dood, my gf and I passed you as you were getting loaded into the amb...I was worried that the truck was a maggotmobile...

we both guessed that someone had crossed over and it'd been a head-on, and remarked how we always forget to watch out for the idiots on the other side of the road, although it's nearly impossible to do anything about it even if one was able to see it coming...

Jeez man, that looked really bad, really glad you are okay. The truck windshield was totally spidered/shattered, I was really worried the driver (you) had hit the glass with your head...

man, and I almost pulled over too...

holy shit!! Glad you are okay!! My wife is 6 1/2 months pregnant and I'm constantly freaked out about other drivers now. You're the second mag that got into a car accident yesterday. The other one was in Carbondale. Wow. Two CO Mags in one day. Must be Ullr's price for all that snow you guys have been getting. Get well soon and be very thankful your family wasn't with you.

Wow. Glad you're ok. Get a lawyer, a good one. Keep all medical records- reciepts of copays and all other minute details. Cover yourself- you shouldn't (though you very well may) incur any expenses over someone else's MAJOR fuck up- that's what his liability coverage is for.

I've been there- doing 40mph, hit by an old woman who "wasn't concentrating on driving" going 40mph head on. I spent 7 weeks in the hospital and 4 months out of work.

Again, great to hear you're ok.

You mean trading stories with his imaginary internet friends? How pathetic. Oh wait. That's what TGR is too.

I used to live up there. Were you on the right hander at the reservoir? I saw so many drunks on that road I was always amazed there weren't more wrecks.

    Rest up and get better.

Glad your ok. That's some scary shit and a reminder to all of to think twice about cell phones and other distracting shit unless your sure you can use them saftly. Your lucky, the outcome could have been far worse, all the more reason to enjoy that wife and 21 month kid at home.

    What biggins said.

Someone I know well got rear-ended hard (long story) and though he was discharged from the hospital, his neck was never quite right after that. 20 years later he had to have vertebrae fused.

So: make absolutely sure you get all the diagnostics and followup treatment, keep copies and records of everything, and follow your rehab. Don't push yourself to go skiing when you probably should be in a neck brace.
