how do I drop a cornice?

    from my roof!

Im not too worrried about the weight as the roof was built to hold snow. What concerns me is this thing coming down on someones head or my dogs. I wacked it a bunch of times with an roller extension poll, but its solid ice. access is only from the deck which is a good ten feet away. any brilliant suggestions that dont involve explosives?

It looks like you have a gable over the door, so just rope off the area where an impact can occur. I have used a long pole with a hinged blade. It collapses against the pole and glides over the snow as you push it up the roof, then opens and cuts a slab of snow as you pull down. Commercial versions are available LINK LINK2

Chances are you can buy one at a local hardware store. Ask for a roof rake, eh?.

I know we're trying to go for no explosives here, but... I have to say, M-80's. Please. You must. Or teenagers. Or gas. Or teenagers with gas and explosives. Either way, you MUST video, and you MUST post it up on YouTube and here.

Cut it like any other cornice... Clothesline wth nuts or washers tied perodically to it. Throw, saw, and pull...

Turn the heat way up in your house, then turn it way down and then crank it up again. The bottom layer will melt, them freeze, then release. But it sort of looks like it is hung up in a valley.

    Avalauncher.

Apparently available here - http://www3.bc.sympatico.ca/sear/ - for the low price of 20 grand. Buy one now and you can look forward to many seasons of effective cornice clearing

Drink 15 cases of beer, get a ladder truck (cherry picker), stand up above your house, and piss the snow clear.

    Also video this for youtube.

Low-Frequency Decibel Emitter. LFDE works like ultrasound but on larger range.

No explosions, fire or weapons involved.
