A hair dryer and an extension cord. Make an afternoon out of it.

Did you get it to slide? I'd say just rope it off and let nature take it's course. Either that or get a tree saw. You know the ones with the long handles for trimming high branches and tree tops. You could slice the corner off. But you still have the whole rest of the roof to contend with.

powder11 is too busy skiing the 72cms in the last 24h at Blackcomb to worry about his cornice again.

He posted this thread the first period that it hadn't snowed for more than 36hours since mid November. Seeing as it shouldn't stop snowing again till February he'll forget about it for a while. Unless it ends up on a list...

    serious answer toby,

Cut it with a rope. Diagonal cut, bit by bit.

Get some thick plywood at ground level and put it over whatever is exposed and could break. Eg glass, windows, pipes etc.

Prop the plywood at an angle and brace the wood with some thick struts. When that cornice drops it will be ugly and thick. I've broken OSB board with cornice debris.

I'll give you a hand this weekend. You'll need a long ladder and I'll have to grab one unless you have one. I'll bring some rope. 30m should do the trick.

Take it down now before it gets worse.
