Ask him to send a second chance offer through Ebay. Not sure if it's a scam but it's pretty damn fishy, and at that price I'd be weary. If he sends you a second chance, it's still through Ebay and you get at least some protection that Ebay kinda gives you.

If he's willing to sell at your price, have him set up a buy it now through ebay. It's easy to do if he is the owner of the auction. If he bitches about relisting fees, offer to pay them...it will be around $2 or 3 extra. If he won't do that, you might want to be leary.

Plus, the guy selling in ebay says this:

I agree with that one being a scam. I sent him back a strongly worded email regarding a second chance offer through eBay and forwarded the email to who I believe to be the actual seller from which I was going to buy the bike from since it didn't sell at auction.

What caught my attention was that the original buyer and I had agreed upon a price this morning then this separate guy sends me an email...

just fishy. regardless, i should be scoring this price to a similar one posted by the would be scammer, stoked!

Sounds like a scam to me.
You see, in this world there's two kinds of people, my friend: Those with loaded guns and those who dig. You dig.

Not sure where I read it. I think it was on a ski auction but they were warning about this.
