Gore is very laid-back. It makes Sugarbush look like Vegas...meaning there's not really any happening night life or anything on the access road--or anywhere in North Creek (forgive me if I'm mistaken...I've just never seen anything that looks like a big party place on route to the ski area). It's all about the skiing--very "old school." Although they do have a cute little bar in the ski lodge and have a pretty rousing happy hour there on weekends.
You will not find as challenging terrain there as Killington, but there are two tricky double blacks that are steep and narrow--nice! Lots of winding trails...very interesting. Not too many that have the "wide open" feel. It feels very connected w/ nature on this mountain, at least to me. There are plenty of glades for the tree-lovers. There is not a real terrain park, but they have a little half-pipe and some funky roller-mogul things down the main slope under the gondie.
Gore, like Whiteface, can tend to be plagued by ice. But when it snows it's of course wonderful there. If you're an EC skier this is not going to bother you much. We were there last weekend w/ a teenaged snowboarder chick from Norway who pissed and moaned continuously about the ice
. Whatever--we just skiied it and had a good time regardless.
You won't find it crowded very often. You should consider popping in there if it's going to be that close to you. As well as being closer to you than K it's also cheaper.
