    How bad are 412s?

I've got a pair of early season rock skis in need of bindings and an old pair of R412s w/ wide brakes laying around.
I really don't want to spend any $ on this rig but I've heard nothing but horror stories about these things.
Are they truly as bad as advertised?

Not very bad, especially for rock skis. Heavy though. I have never had problems with mine.

Perhaps you should try them and see. I've found that things that don't work for the bandwagon jumping masses work marvelously for me.

The plastic heel cups have a trendancy to fail, among other things. Just don't ski them in a manner that would get you killed or stuck if the binding were to fail....and probably keep the dins at a reasonable level to keep the stresses down. But no, overall I would not trust them.
