    12.27.06 Mt Rose sightings

First chair today... windbuff cream, and they opened almost all the frontside runs. Fast. Fun. Still snowing when I left for work; I'm going back tomorrow morning.

Saw Jim S from the ski lift -- hard to miss that green snakeskin jacket -- how'd you like those Pontoons in the heavy pow today?

Saw a guy w/ Dynafits & Bros too -- was going to ask for change (was that someone here?), but was also trying to find my 9 yr old, who had vanished off into the trees somewhere, so never made it over.

Saw some spiffy neon suits. Gotta love that.

Saw 2 large mustached men in matching Arcteryx jackets & pants, matching helmets, matching goggles, matching boots, matching Fritschi bindings, and matching Fatypus skis. Asked them whether they had to make tip loops for the skins for those skis, or whether they were able to find large enough loops somewhere.... got a bizarre look back, and an explanation of "you get the skins for the backcountry, they come with loops...."-- ? (as opposed to the inbounds skins?) Very odd. I didn't talk to them anymore after that.

Didn't know you had a 9 year old. We'll have to ski with the minimaggs sometime.

That is a funny, and very odd story. You should have gotten a digi of that duo.

Thanks for the update, really hoping the skiing is decent this weekend!

A 9 yr old snowboarder and a 7 yr old skier. The 7 yr old really really wanted to snowboard too, but since neither I nor Mrs. C. snowboard, we can't teach him; we told him he had to wait until he was 7 to get into a lesson. 1 snowboard lesson later... he's back on skis and happy to be there. He's very much a "pizza" skier, and gets frustrated trying to make "french fries" on anything other than a groomed green run. He'll get there.

The 9 yr old rips. In a year or two I won't need to wait up for him.

We should get everyone together to ski/board. Hopefully today is the start of a long and deep winter.

So does mine, but I don't need to wait up for her much anymore. That might say more about your and my relative skillz than those of our progeny.

Yes, fritchis are strictly a resort binding. Noone would EVER take those into the BC.

El Chup, I talked to the same guys... matching everything... got the same response. Told me some story about how they got 'the last pairs' at the Truckee and Incline Porters'.... I asked them how they liked the Adrenaline/FR/Faty setup; they said they liked how they carved on the groomers. They wondered what brand "SCREAM" was (AK Rockets) LOL... Maybe they like to give each other moustache rides. Definitely soy.

What were you rocking? I'm up there most of the time; I had my shiny new (thanks to Focus) AK Rockets up there that day, with a black bad lt., tan patagonia jacket, and a flash set of gold anon snakeskin goggles... Hard to miss. I'm sure I saw you...

And yes, those first few tracks down NW and Waterfall, etc, were pretty much money. ....at least until they got tracked out 15 mins later. I made it to the NW 'gate' when patrol was still there; I asked (jokingly) if it was the gate for El Cap, since there were so many people... He looked at me as if I had 4 heads, and told me to 'be safe out there, keep your speed down'... Must be new.

Maybe he'll have a sense of humor in a month or three.

.....and I won't keep the speed down.

I was on my rapidly-delaminating Home Depot woodgrained Powder Plusses... soon to be ninja black. I have lots of skis, so you won't recognize me by those. I'm usually in a black Giro 9MX, Dakine pack, Smith goggles; jacket & pants vary. Though if I'm in my orange pants, I'm hard to miss.

Mrs. C. and I will be up at Rose this weekend. If you have a FRS radio, maggot channel 5-13.
