Is Irwin Lodge open this winter?
Is Irwin Lodge open this winter?
Negative. Long story, but it's on the market, currently the building is gutted. Who knows when it will be open again...
just sad .... someone or a very small corporation or a group of maggots should buy this place and bring it up to speed - better yet, ahead of it's time![]()
had my deepest pow turns ever there back in '92 with Dougy as my guide+ the place is speechless-ly beautiful!!!
"... she'll never need a doctor; 'cause I check her out all day"
I was curious what was going on. Every time I check it keeps getting pushed back, now I am reading opening in 2008/2009. They had a website up for a while talking about the renovation but it appears to be off line now.
That place was always the shit, I remember beating some drunk cowboys in pool, watching Monty Python videos, making out in the hot tub at 12K, and bagging a couple of 14ers. Best summer hiking trip for a 15 yr old ever, thanks mom and dad! One of the guides tended bar in the summer (I of course drank hot chocolate) and I can remember his tall tales of submerged powder turns. My mom asked how they can ski with all the tall trees, his response, “well m'am, the trees get a lot shorter ‘round here in the winter."

"Hurry up and finish your wine so we can go get us some milkshakes"
They were going to go to town on the place- 4star super luxury and a separate building for day snowmobilers. A lot of nagging problems like water rights got addressed, so that will be good for whoever buys it. It's going to take a lot of coin to get it rolling again, I think it's like 10 or 15 million just for the shell, the land, the business plan, and the permits, and then you would have to finish it and buy snowcats, etc. So it might take a while before somebody goes for it.![]()
In the meantime, the snowcat roads are great for snowmobile laps![]()
^^^
The main roads get snowcatted from time to time by the local snowmobile club.
how is crested butte right now i will be there soon and would like to know
just got to UT from CB and thinking about heading back. Nuf said.
when I was up there in, um, 96, I think, I met some very cool people who were the last owners and losers of shirts, I assume. And I skied with shareholders, who also lost their t shirts. It's a serious game to do something like that, especially if you hook up to an obscure hard core lift serviced ski area like CB. But I do agree, that is one of the prettiest places in CO. I have ever been.
